Does the new version still work with the old SDK?

Hi all,

When I install the new update for ED, will I sill be able to use my DK2 with the existing SDK. I only use my rift for ED, so I have never bothered to upgrade the SDK beyond the originally supported version that Frontier provided.

In other words, am I obliged to update to the latest Oculus SDK if I want to carry on using my DK2?

On a separate note, I've heard people saying that there is a process you can follow to make the text much more readable in Oculus DK2 and improve the quality a lot - is there an idiot's guide to implementing this trick anywhere? I also wasn't clear on whether this only works on high end graphics cards?

cheers

If you install 0.8 SDK and SteamVR you will be able to use it. Otherwise you will need to wait until the 1.3 SDK that is due to release on Monday.

Its a bit of a pain. I've just done it along with updating AMD drivers that haven't been updated since getting the DK2, for no improvement what so ever! Slightly worse in fact.

Just a couple more days for 1.3 and all should be well again. I'd prefer this two day wait over having my cv1, runtime 1.3 next week and no oculus support in elite.

So just to be clear, you are saying that the 0.5 SDK no longer works so my rift won't work until I do all that stuff?

Correct. Forget runtime 0.5/0.6. They are no longer supported - and good riddance to that horrible extended mode.

Ok thanks.

And just to be clear, we do know that the latest Oculus SDK that is just about to come out still works with the DK2 and the DK2 is not going to become an rather uncomfortable set of sleeping goggles?
