does the "suicide Sidewinder trick" still work?

I accidentally shot a Security ship and got the 600cr fine. The other Security ships started attacking me. A bit heavy handed i think. Anyway i boosted away trying to charge my fsd. One Security Eagle chased me and just wouldn't leave me alone. I lost my patience and turned around and killed the sucker LOL.

Anyway, can i get a Sidey and get myself blown up to clear my 6000cr bounty?. I really like the System and don't wanna wait 6 days to return.

Having a bounty is still doable though. You can still dock and it will enhance your smuggling skills for later. Just go in fast

indeed you could just ignore the bounty altogether and just continue doing what you do, just turn off report crimes against me and avoid using the authority NPC's to assist you in killing your targets, go to a HAZ RES for the 6 days as at least the cops and possibly other NPC bounty hunters never seem to go there

I think you need a player to kill you for the larger bounties. Worth a shot though it's not like the rebuy on a sidey is expensive.

NPC authority killing you in the system where you have the bounty wipes it... at least up to half a million creds worth as that was my last 'sidewinder death' a month or so agao

yes any death will set the bounty as old. but i think you have to pay it without being scanned or will become active again.

Pedantry: it's a "bounty", not a "fine". Fines you can pay off, bounties you can't.

A simple suicide will turn your bounty "dormant"; if the cops in that system scan you while the dormant bounty is active, the bounty will re-activate.

Wait, you can pay off dormant bounties? I was under the impression that only fines (regular ones or legacy ones) can be payed off.

I had a murder bounty (7 day one) after an assassination mission. Bought a sidey, flew back to where I had committed the offence and local security welcomed me with open lasers. No more bounty. It was making me a bit too attractive at RESs so had to go.

Using a Sidewinder is a bit expensive when you have horizons, a SRV will do the trick too.

But honestly I don't understand why people are doing it, having a bounty isn't all that bad. I did fly around in systems where I'm wanted a lot, its not all that difficult but still does mix things up a bit which is a good thing if you ask me.

Yeah i might just stay away from the system till it becomes a legacy fine. My Vulture rebuy is like a million credits. But i could soon earn that in a Hazres i suppose.
Or just stay and take my chances, could be exciting. I'm useless at sneaking into stations tho LOL
