So I've decided that I want a clipper, but I'm starting from scratch in the Empire. Rear Admiral with the Feds, but "No Rank 2%" with the Empire. So i spent last night doing Empire missions. Managed to get one rank up , so at least I'm an outsider now. Took probably 10 courier/hauling missions and 2 charity missions. Anyway, after all that, I've only moved up 1% Reputation! I've gone from Friendly 25% to Friendly 26% with the Empire. Makes it tricky to get better missions when I'm not Allied. Does this sound right?

It can be VERY spotty on to whether you gain rep or not. I've been grinding for the last week and a half too for the same reason you are. I went from Squire to Baron, and can now get the Clipper. (Just gotta find a role for it in my arsenal.) I was running charity/classified data missions for/from the stations in Cubeo. Sometimes, I would do a few at a time, and get 10% on rank, others, I would turn in 7 charity missions at once, and get 1% too! Then, one random data delivery would net me a wopping 7% on its own...
Something I found near the end of my Cutter grind was that taking missions that required a higher rank seemed to give me more of an increase to my rank, Pathfinder ranked covert courier missions were giving me around 4% each.

Ah, well I've found that trading with stations, turning in exploration data, turning in bounties, and doing missions for the factions controlling said station seems to increase my Empire rank quite fast.
I suck at explaining things, but I'll try so let me know if you ever need help. --Momentai :3
Hm... have you been doing other activities that might correspondingly drop your empire rep? For example, sometimes I'll do some bounty hunting with a KWS scanner and it can negatively impact my major faction rep based on the different bounties it picks up...
I would think that your main faction only went up 1% while your minor faction rep went up more. So, being allied with more minor factions would probably influence your major faction rep... Could be wrong, but I have been flying for the Empire for a very long time now and can't remember how quick/slow gaining that "Allied" status took... I would suggest gaining rep with multiple minor factions and see if that helps. The Empire is big.
Might help, I'm allied with more stations then I can count (with all three powers) so maybe that's why my rep goes up faster? I'd give his suggestion a try. --Momentai :3
Makes sense. I was with the Feds from GPP up until two days ago, so I don't really remember how long it took either...plus that was a very different version of the game. I'll work on it all some more tonight and see where I get with it.
