General / Off-Topic Does your Car match your Ship?

If you drive, does the car you own in any way match your chosen ship in Elite?

I personally don't like big, heavy lumbering cars and I found the bigger ships were bulky slow-turning and not as much fun to fly. So I now usually fly a Cobra or DB/X (probably my favourite ship).

I actually have a Suzuki Vitara S (the newer model), which sort-of matches the DBX in being small, but chunky styled and a little utilitarian but with sometimes surprising capabilities.

it just stuck me as interesting that my choice in ship and car were similar.

If I didn't have to haul quite a lot of stuff around for my job on occasion and live out in the styx where 4x4 is really useful in the Winter i'd probably have a small, light hot hatch. I quite fancied a Juke Nismo, until I saw it managed 30mpg and I do 20-30k a year. So that would be pricey.

I once owned a Ford Focus 02 Estate, which I compare to a Python - roomy, practical for everything
I also once owned a BMW 3 Series, which I compare to a Cobra Mk3 - fast, agile, aggressive
Now I own a Nissan Qashqai, which I compare to an Adder - Curvy, Nice Interior, the wife likes it

Nope, maybe if my RL bank balance looked anything like my ED bank balance. if only I could get paid stupid amounts of money by selling crap I could did out of anywhere without paying licenses or permits or leases, or requiring any kind of operational overhead. 🙂

It actually sorta does - I tend to like Gutamaya ships and I have a white Mazda 6 with a white and black interior that feels surprisingly similar.

Car?!

You know, you might have a point here, I always thought I did a bit of the same.

I drive this thing:

A "luxurious" 😅 Fiat Tipo Sedan/Saloon, semi-basic trim, with the cheapest engine possible: up to most everyday tasks without really shining at anything, it does nothing better than any other car, cheap for the size and the role (and totally looks like it in places), has all the basics needed for going around withouth the fanciness usually found on most other cars these days, dependable and relatively cheap on maintenance, it will take you where you want to go no matter the distance, not the most thrilling ride and definitely not a fast one, you'll still be going everywhere you want to go while carrying a sizeable amount of what you need for the task. Most importantly, almost completely out of fashion with just about everyone, and ridiculed for not being fancy and cool and sleek like any other hatchback/SUV these days.

My most defining ship in the game (Buckyball aside) is my Keelback, go figure. :D

OMG, no, I'm flying an Asp Scout now.

I'm hearing you, I have a soft spot for the AspS too, and absolutely enjoy flying around in mine, most of the above points still apply.

Now that I think of it, years ago before that one, I had this:

A "Grande Punto" in Sport trim: fancy looks, quite aggressive with big rims and spoilers, absolutely not as fast as looks would suggest but a great ride nonetheless, fully laden with two bags of groceries.

And I flew around in a Viper Mk IV most of the time.

I see a pattern here....
