Does your ranking affect mission payout (novice - elite)?

I know your faction reputation affects payout but how about your rank? There are people getting very lucrative payouts from planetary scan missions and I never see those kinds of payouts, but I'm low scout rank.

On the flipside I am Dangerous rank in combat and don't often see missions even ranked Master let alone higher than that.

Missions themselves are directly affected by reputation/rank with the local faction issuing the missions. (Your Fed or Imperial rank can affect your access to specific mission types)

As a rule, it is best to become Allied with any factions you wish to get the best missions from. They also pay the highest $$ for rewards. Not to mention higher reputation and influence points.

That goes towards your main Fed, Imp or Alliance ranking.

Hi all,

Yes.

Pilots Federation is usually the primary contributor to payouts (Open up the mission on the board and it'll say what rank the mission was generated against).

Reputation with factions is secondary.

Superpower rank is irrelevant.

Thanks,
Dom

does your rank UNLOCK the mission, or does it directly affect the payout.

or with an example: i am ranked dangerous and the board offers me a mission with an elite rank.
will my current rank affect how much i get from it?

Hi there,

Since 2.1, rank has not locked missions, it merely affects the risk and reward.

The primary locking factor is faction reputation, followed by physical constraints such as cargo space.

Thanks,

then there is something wrong

i took many elite rank missions already, and neither the risk, nor the reward was significantly different from lower ranked one.

eg. i read about "elite" assassination missions that would spawn whole wings of baddies - but all i found was some paying around 1M, elite ranked and a mere python to be killed.

note: my homebase is deadalus, Sol.

since 2.3, good paying missions are almost as rare as missions from neighbouring missions into Sol (aka i never saw one). I am allied with ALL minor factions in Sol, and if i wanted, i would be allied to Fed too.
has this something to do with the hidden "wealth" of a system, or do i miss something here? when even Elite combat or transport missions pay less then a "scout" ranked passenger transport

Hi Dom. Just to clarify - the recommended rank listed on the mission is what affects the payments, right? But since you can take any missions irrespective of rank, the rank you currently hold has no affect on payments. Or do I have that wrong?

Hi there,

Your personal rank has no effect on the payments, yes. It is the rank of the mission itself which has an effect.

Whilst it is true that you can accept missions of any rank, your personal rank influences the rank of the missions offered.

So having a high rank generates high ranked missions and vice versa.

Thanks,
Dom

Ah right, I get it now. I appreciate the reply.

It used to be that the higher your rank the better paying mission you could take meaning you had good reasons for hitting elite, then they changed it to the current system.

In many games (ED included), your need for money is urgent very early on, at the "lower levels". Once you start to rank up in the game, money comes easier, mission/quests pay more and you're no longer hurting that much for money.

By the time you reach lvl cap (or, "Elite" in ED), money is no longer an obstacle. You'd be concentrating on other stuff like big bad boss raids, getting ph4t l3wt etc.

So maybe the switch to the current system is a good idea? you can be Harmless but you can try to take on a "Competent" job. It pays more than a Harmless-ranked mission would....

No that's reputation listed (cordial, friendly, allied).

Ahmmm... No. Open the mission, to the left about half way down there is a mission rank. That is what determines the mission rewards. And as others have stated your rank may determine what missions pop for you. As far as I've seen you can get missions 2 ranks above your rank, I have not seen 3 ranks above your rank. But it my have changed, I've been elite for awhile now so I can't be sure.
