dogfight fail

(keyboard and mouse fyi)

Just loaded the new beta today.

In the prem beta, it was a little easier because there were all the high intensity / low intensity areas where combat was a little more frantic. more pursuit and less dog fighting.

Overall, i'm finding it a little boring because I can't find any big battles, just lots of little groups in the signal areas. So I guess it's dogfighting right now, but i'm terrible at this. I'm even terrible at the tutorial/scenario.

Anyone have tips for getting behind the opponent?

My playbook looks like this, but its failing pretty hard.

joust at the opponent, pass him, kill FA and spin about with boost and then re-approach. Problem is, by the time i do that, he's already coming back at me and I can't circle around him fast enough to be chasing. I'm always being chased.

Any tips?

More pips to engines will significantly improve your maneuverability, you will find you're altering your power management moment to moment, depending on your current situation.

If you're already running at max engine power, you probably just need to practice more. I will say that from my experience, mouse and keyboard is the hardest interface to master for ED.

Forget FAOFF and boosting until you have master basic turns at optimal speed (blue zone). Slow to optimal speed as you and enemy pass each other (youl need to back off throttle as you approach each other) and just turn as sharp as you can using scanner to keep the turn aligned with his direction. Try to initiate the turn a little before you cross over.

I made a quick vid to demonstrate what I described above:

Go to Eranin 2 - there are both a Federal Distress Beacon and an X Intensity Battle going on there.
