Dear Elite Dangerous Chaps,
Firstly, I would just like to say that I think you have a great product and I am enjoying Elite Dangerous immensely. However, I do believe there are some small gaps in the ship inventory that would improve my gaming pleasure substantially.
Before I go any further please allow me to elaborate on my style of play. I am very much a dog fighting sort of guy and as such I am currently flying around in a Vulture which is an awesome ship. I particularly like way you have to balance the power management between practicality and raw power
My favorite weapon load out for this ship is a fixed beam laser with a gimbaled projectile weapon. With this configuration I can take out any ship in a one on one dog fight. My issue is that one on ones represent only a third of my fighting scenarios. Realistically, I cannot engage a wing of three or more as this is not the most efficient setup for quickly taking down smaller craft. No matter how good your skills are with the fixed weapon, you will always be able to take out a viper, sidewinder or eagle much faster (which is imperative when engaging larger wings) using a gimbaled burst laser, thus making it the most powerful/useful setup overall. My only issue with this is that whilst dogfighting with gimbaled weapons is effective, it takes most of the fun out of the game. There is nothing more satisfying that watching your beam laser raking across the hull of a ship before it explodes in front of you. I actually think my dogfighting skills have gone backward since using the gimbaled setup as dogfighting has become an incredibly lazy affair.
My problem is that there is nowhere for me to go from my current setup to help alleviate this as the Vulture is currently the most powerful dogfighting ship in the game, and I have only just managed to reach the level of expert.
The next possible solution would be the python, but you could hardly call it a dogfighter… I don’t think there needs to be a more powerful fighter as the Vulture is pretty awesome, but a more flexible solution would be fantastic. Something like an upgraded version of the eagle that has 3 level 2 hard points instead of the two level 3’s. That way I could have my cake and eat it. A fixed and a gymbolled laser… if it had a price point of 20,000,000 you could even put in a bigger power plant in and down the mobility one notch…
My favorite setup would be 2 x two and 1 x 3 hard points. This would enable me to have a fixed level 3 beam laser, but perhaps this would be a too powerful a configuration.
As it currently stands, I’m not sure the game can hold much more play time for me as I feel I have already maxed out my particular path.
Thanks,
Stuart
