Doh!

So I got back from my pilgrimage to Sag A last night and low and behold I check and there is an exploration CG going on, woo hoo me thinks the 4000ish systems worth of data should get me into the top 5% and a nice 7500000 bonus!

So I jump into my trusty combat Cobra and head over to Cemiess dodging a couple of inderdictions on the way (both fun and terrifying with so much data on board) but finally I dock successfully and spend and hour or so selling of all my precious data thinking what a stroke of luck it was to have an exploration CG running at the end of what has been a 2 month trip.

Now I have a nice 50 Million burning a hole in my pocket I decide to run some empire missions as I think I would quite like to spend my loot on a shiny new clipper, so i head to the bulletin board only to see the CG mission I did NOT sign up for before selling all that data, DOH!!!

I know this is my own fault but being out in the black for so long I forgot how these things work and now despite my selling all this data at the correct station I get nothing because I didn't sign up first. Surely selling exploration data at this station while the CG is running should automatically sign me up! Ahh well I guess its my own stupidity I'm really mad at and I should just be happy I made it back in one piece to sell it at all.

My condolencies Cmdr - I did a similar thing a little while ago, purely because I did not know how the CG's worked.

A cautionary tale indeed, and yet another thing for us Explorers to remember upon returning to civilised space after months out in the wilderness...along with asking for docking permission and remembering to wear pants.

and landing gear, never forget landing gear.

TBH the payouts for this CG don't look as high as for the previous Sirius exploration CG. So could have been worse...

<EDIT>Sorry ignore the above - only saw the minimum reward and assumed that was it; it was getting late last night... So yes, that's pretty unlucky commander - a lesson learnt the hard way... </EDIT>

(I also got back from Sag.A last night, but did remember to sign up before handing in data... Although I found timing the exit out of S.C. for the Space station surprisingly difficult... :) ).

The most important piece of equipment for an explorer isn't a good FSD drive. Neither is a good fuel scoop, or an ADS, or a detailed surface scanner. AFMU's and heat sinks? Don't make me laugh.

The most important piece of equipment an explorer can have is a simple, yellow (for great justice) post-it note stuck to the side of a monitor that says "request docking permit / lower landing gear". Also, I want in-game customizable post-it notes we can stick around our cockpit :D

I know an entire thread has been dedicated to CG but I am blonde and have "blonde moments" so I have a few (off thread admittedly) questions ref CG, simple ones.
1. Where do you pick up the CG 'mission'
2. Do you have to be Elite to participate?
3. What's it all about?

1. They on the Bulletin board at a specific station in a system. In silver colour... Check the CG thread on the main discussion page for active CGs.
2. No. Anyone can sign up.
3. Sign up to the CG - like accepting a mission. And just do what it says. Collect scans / Sell metals / Kill pirates. But do this (i.e. sell data / commodities / bounties) at the station where you accepted the mission (unless it says otherwise). The more you contribute, the more you get rewarded.

That's gotta hurt.
If it's any consolation OP you should have no problem being offered plenty of rank increase missions from the empire from now on.

Docking was actually surprisingly simple. It was entirely my own fault I just felt the need to vent and hopefully my sorry tale will prevent another commander making the same mistake.
