Dolphin or DBX ?

Not sure which one. I'm not fighting so I'll have no weapons. I'll be trading and exploring (no long distance) mostly. Some passenger missions here and there. Thanks in advanced for the feedback. p.s. Those are the only two choices I'm interested in. o7

IMO the dolphin
Great ship to fly, fast and agile in and out of SC, can hold everything you need for exploring, decent jump range and well it is obviously perfect for passenger missions.
Looks good doing it too!

Oh! and that boost sound....perfect little ship.

The DBX runs cooler (useful to reduce the risk of being scan at starports) and has a better range than the Dolphin. But the Dolphin can get a Luxury cabin, goes faster (useful for running away), is less expensive, has more internal slots and is fun to fly. It depends if you plan to do mostly trading or passenger hauling. For trading the Dolphin is a good choice if you ditch the cabins. For long range passengers, the DBX could be better. But as you said you won't go far away, I would recommand the Dolphin... Personal opinion, so do as you wish :D

It's basically personal preferences, just fly the ship that you enjoy most.

Pro DBX:
- very good jump range (especially with grade5 mods)
- big fuel tank
- runs cold, no need to worry about binary stars or other heat sources

Contra DBX:
- not much cargo space
- slow fuel scoop rate

Pro Dolphin:
- fast
- big module slot for it's size

Contra Dolphin:
- slight heat problem, especially in normal flight above planets/moons

I've had a lot of fun with the Dolphin, & made good money using it.
I upgraded to an Orca recently, just to give me more passenger space.
:D

A Dolphin, yesterday:-

I'd go for a DBX. :p

In this case I would recommend the Dolphin, as it has more cargo space and higher top speed. DBX is much better at combat but if you don't intend to fight and don't need a super long jump range the Dolphin will serve you better.

I've just fitted out a DBX for ferrying about in. Love the 50+ ly jump range it has. Perfect for what I use it for! I've never owned a dolphin, so can't comment on that.

I can fly the DBX forever; in fact it is my favourite ship. You get used to the slower scoop, and it doesn't much affect how long it takes to get places. The only downside to the DBX is the cargo space. For the odd skirmish, the DBX handles much better than the AspX (which was my previous favourite ship).

I like the Dolphin. But I can only fly it for short periods before it irritates me and I need to go back to a proper ship. :D

I like them both and mostly just use the DBX but in your case, the Dolphin has the advantage on cargo space.

Great advice ! I've created a 2nd CMDR and am doing things a little different. I think I'll go Dolphin. I've done the DBX ghost thing and I have loved it but as I said I don't intend to fight. On Roguey it says the DBX has 31.90 and the Dolphin has 31.30 jump ranges. Should I be able to engineer the Dolphin remarkably close to the DBX in jump range? If the DBX gets 50 should I be able to get the Dolphin to 47ish ?
