Don´t buy a Cobra Mk III

Doesn't make any sense. FdL are losing far more money on the discounted Cobra's than they'd gain from the additional paint-jobs.

The ships are sold by fictional companies for fictional money. The paint jobs are sold by a real company for real money. It's a little metagame that FD are playing on us.:D

(For the record, I am totally fine with that happening, I just prefer to point out the elephant in the room.:p)

I don't think you're more likely to buy a skin with real money because you are able to more easily buy the in-game ship pre-wipe in a beta. I think it's more likely they wanted to make sure that people who *did* buy it, could access the cobra.

I think it works both ways. :)

As fun as these speculations are, the entire reason for the ingame discount on the ship is that a player who has just acquired a Cobra ingame, is more likely to purchase a Cobra skin in the store outside the game. I saw the 4th wall broken the moment they announced the paint job and the ingame discount simultaneously.

Of course, if proof of legitimate ingame reasons appears in the near future, it might just mean FD added it to disprove this theory of mine.:D

I was enjoying the role playing there for a minute and there you are again Mephane. Thanks!
Can't you just stay in the skin thread with this?

Who are this FD you speak of? Fictional ships? Have you suffered a rapid decompression recently? Check into sick bay ASAP!

Now what if I sell my old cobra that I paid the full amount for and get a new one for half the amount, do I make a 50% profit or loss. ?
Will I get the old amount back?

It's all a ploy by FDL to sell more Cobra's.

More commanders buy a Cobra, then go fighting and lose the ship so then have to buy another Cobra...

Rinse and repeat. :D

FD = Frontier Developments. ;)

Well, I got my Cobra-MKIII and I love it. Ample amount of cargo units and lot's of speed. With the two class 4 hard-points on the top and two class 2 under it's belly, I have a nice bounty hunting/trading ship. Also the two utility mounts with point defence turrets on them are a must have.

It sounds like I'm trying to sell MKIII's, but I don't. Nor have I bought shares from Faulcon deLacy.
It seems that the 50% off sale price has to do with the Eranin VS Federation skirmishes. To get a shift in balance, the scale needs to tip more towards the Cobra mkIII and not the Hauler... Firepower so to speak.

PS: Read the Galnet news report. Read it here

This means war???

The Faulcon Delacy ad on Galnet does explicitly say: "model shown: Mk III". Which suggests that the rumors about a Mk IV could be correct.

I'm hoping that there will soon be a Mk IV with a few LY better drive range.

Surely it is just the Asp, that has been confirmed, rather than a fictional MkIV, that hasn't been mentioned before.

I guess the fictional story is wanting to get people used to the Cobra so they upgrade to an Asp (which will come out on the last day of the 10 days' celebration).

I got a cheap Mk III, in its original shrink-wrap, that I plan to sell on galBay in a decade or so for the price of a small moon.

At first I was evited when I read this:

“ALERT TRANSMISSION: 3300-09-22

It turns out that big deal that the Faulcon deLacy board was rumoured to be working on is a spectacular one. In a surprise move, prices of their Cobra Mk III craft have been slashed by 50% to 86,052 credits. FdL is also offering 100% of the trade-in value of your current ship when you switch to a Cobra Mk III.”

But then I started to wondering: Why should Faulcon deLacy give away a one of their most successful production ships for half price? :S ... most successful for more than 30 years…

I think I know what’s going on!

Faulcon deLacy must have a new ship in their pipeline and wants to clear their stock and get rid of the probably obsolescent Cobra Mk III.

So don´t waste your money on outdated ship! Wait for the new Cobra Mk IV.

No, no, no, no, no. It's what business people from the 21st century called "razor-razorblade model". Most people today have no idea what a "razor" is, mostly due to the invention of laser shavers in the 22nd century, so let me explain, it's a handle with a disposable metal blade that was used by men to shave beards back in the day. Manufacturers would usually sell the handle (A.K.A. "tha razor") very cheap or even give it away, then they'd recover the cost plus a hefty profit by selling the blades.

FDL is certainly ploting something on those lines. Expect them to anounce an "extended warranty" offer or maybe long term maintenance contracts with different tiers for diferent uses. For example, Paladium for combatants, Berylim for explorers and Gold for traders.

With this business model, the more discounted Cobras they sell, the more contracts to go with them.

You are joking surely, there are no cobras sitting in a warehouse waiting to be sold, it is generated when you buy it. If you don't buy it, it doesn't really exist.

The MK IV comes with a new standard for the connector for re-fueling which will mean that all stations will be forced into expensive retrofits. Apparently Faulcon deLacy will sell an adapter for a very 'reasonable' price. ;)

GalacticFixIt took one of those adapters apart and found a spy-chip inside which comms with the MKIV's AI....

Could you please stop breaking people's immersion™. Thanks!
