Donations don't change superpower rank?

Just donating several million dollars to various federal factions, but it didn't affect my federal reputation at all. What am I missing?

What is the point of donating then?

Give it a few minutes to update. For some reason it has to think about it before you see a change, much like Santa Claus.

It raises your rep with that particular faction.

Your Federal rank only raises when you complete specific Fed Rank missions.

Whats the point? - increased rep with that faction, access to better or higher rewarded missions for that faction, often get follow on missions where theyve completely wasted your donation and now need more help, doing the better rewarded missions will increase rank quicker

i usually use them if theres no missions or I need added rep, probably more what theyre designed for, to almost 'buy a mission'.

Often the new follow-on mission pays more than you just donated.

You may notice these days there are only two versions of the rep gain with donations:

1+ Rep and 2+ Rep

At the higher ranks these do not go a long way on their own.

They do add up when you give a lot , but even three at 2+ will usually only raise you 1%.

Much better these days to add these in conjunction with as many 4+ and 5+ rewards you can get with delivery (goods and messages) and other missions. Surface scans are often 5+ reputation rewards, and a bunch of these can pump you up fast..

You don't have Federal rep. You have Federal Rank.
Even if the OP actually meant rank you do have an overall rep with each of the individual superpowers.

Ahhhhh that's it - I'm working on rear admiral. I've been out of the game for a bit and there's so much to learn that when I played before I hadn't really try donating. It's probably just this. Thanks for the help!

Not everybody likes all of the other mission choices for various reasons so a chance to make some progress with a simple bribe cash for honours contribution donation is welcome, plus if you ignore the follow on mission the nasty clerk in the back office can't sell you out to his pirate mates.
