Done for murder in a combat area!

This must be a bug, or the island is clearly leave-able....

so I took the bait and left the comfort of my little corner of space to go visit JERA (or something) and sorbaco? (for the huge ship and combat area).

There was a slave revolt in jera so there was a lovers tiff between the social democrats and the liberals (or something like that) any way, I took sides with the toughest people and chased down the viper and cobra's, because I was not planning on staying here but going to sorbaco or what ever it was called for the big event.

ISSUE:
was happily fighting earning kill credit when I saw a lone vaper swoop past me uncontrollably

I blast away at it but it is travelling at about 375 maybe more so I have to put 3 pips into engines and spend a lot of time boosting, it looks like his engines/thrusters had been blown and he was drifting at full tonk into the blackness of space, this was only realised after he went rather cold at about 3.4k away and was untargetable.

chased him boosting for a very long time (5-8mins constantly boosting while shooting) until I could target him and finish him off.
.
I decided to pop him then head back to the close base cash in and get to the main place, too my surprise he did not register as a crime as I was shooting but upon death it said 'Murder of a civillian' and fined me 6 odd grand.
.
Are these combat islands leavable? (be definition)
this surely must be a bug as I have chased many ships way out previously and never had this happen before.
 
i had this too. I think if you get a certain distance from the conflict zone, you are no longer in a sanctioned killing area so to speak.

It was the same with me, 30 minutes chasing a crippled Viper in my sidey then finally fined for murder

Hmm so in effect these Super cruised into areas there must be a stage at which the game will stop throwing events at the player outside of this area?
Can I get a DEV's input on this please>
