Done to death I know, but empire ranking not working

Hello all, 1st post so bear with me....

I have scoured the web and read thousands of posts/tutorials/how-tos and watched dozens of youtube videos on the subject, but to no avail.

I am unable to find any Empire ascension missions.....at all. I am Allied with Empire, yet my rank is None. I have visited many Empire systems, done countless missions for the empire aligned sub-factions in those systems yet I can't even attain the first empire rank due to no missions for ascension appearing. I don't even see any listed in the "Available but unobtainable Missions" list.

I'm aligned with A Lavigny-Duval is that makes any sort of difference.

For the first couple of weeks I played, I really just did RES farming and some random missions. But then I learned a bit more about the game and decided to focus on ranking up so that I can get the Clipper. I was already allied at this point. As I said, I started doing missions in various systems for factions aligned with Empire but nada. It's been a week at least since I started focusing on this.

In any case, I am hoping someone can help me with this, give me some pointers or shed some light. It's extremely frustrating to seemingly waste game time trying to find a mission that I may or may not be eligible for. And, if not...at least some indicator of what the heck I need to do to start ranking up!

Thanks in advance
Kris

Firstly powerplay alignment matters not for ranking.

The best advice I can give you is to get allied with as many Empire factions as you can. You will note these by their Empire icon if you look at the active factions in the right hand panel.
Be careful with the missions you select are for the Empire faction as bounty boards may offer missions for all factions in that system.

I personally view it as a mob boss type arrangement where if enough of the Empire minor factions (like Emperors grace etc) recommend you then the big boss gives you a promotion mission.

Yes it was bugged, afaik it is fixed but still hard to rank up.
Assassination missions were bugged giving reputation to the wrong faction but afaik thats also fixed.
Somone may correct me on these two.

One thing that may be crucial is that it takes several green up arrows to replace a single red down arrow on reputation, so if you annoyed any local Empire factions with missions for opponents or getting wanted for smuggling etc then it will be hard initially to make progress, hang in there the Clipper is ace :)

The naval ranking missions don't appear anywhere until you are ready to rank up and only then do you see them. I am sort of in the same boat and I am chasing Empire rank whenever I can. There is a thread around somewhere called "quick naval Rank" or something like that. The charity missions seem to be the best.

It's extraordinarily slow now, both in the Empire and the Federation. Don't know if it's bugged as such, but I don't think I've ranked up since 1.3, and I do a lot of missions!

In many ways I still prefer the Clipper. For RES hunting its so much faster getting from encounter to encounter and for PvP its nice to be able to escape at will.
I do admit I dislike the Large pads and the decreased firepower though.

It also doesn't feel like an end of game ship. I still feel when I'm in the Anaconda or Python that its a little too sluggish and heavy-tanky, the Clipper feels more like an light tank (to keep the military vehicles comparison). Packs a good punch yet not invincible, good for extended hit and run.
Anyway thats enough of my musings :p

Almost every ship can escape at will. Its even easier for the Python since high waking for it is quicker usually than low waking for the clipper.

I'm more on about its straight-line speed being able to simply boost away from any other ship apart from another Clipper. Means you don't have to hyperspace and can act with relative impunity when interdicted by just staying in the system. Perfect blockade runner :)
Sadly not usable for Hutton with the no-large ships policy as I said but sometimes you need to be able to SC out instead of reaching for that high wake button...

I actually bought an Anaconda a couple of weeks ago and traded it back in on a Python after a week because not having access to the platforms affected me more than I thought it would. To the OP - sorry for hijacking your thread so we could discuss our preferences :p

I got to outsider working for one Empire faction but I've mostly been killing them ever since.
They don't seem to like me in my Fed stylee.
I'm only picking on one Imp who shall remain nameless.
Missions relating to ranking up just aren't there.
I dunno if it's because I've been a bad banana or if I just don't understand how it works.
Will probably try and be nice to the Blueberry Muffin (Aisling) and the Mango (ALD) and see how that goes.

I have been a Federation lieutenant for a long time, sometimes I think combat rank helps you progress in that but I dunno for sure.
Haven't seen a ranking mission for this either for a long time as well.

Not really in a hurry though.

Tangaroa FTW...

Tangaroa.

Several factions for missions at the two ports there. I went from Baron to Prince in about a week, and donated very little.

Thanks all for the replies so far. I'm going to head to the 2 systems mentioned, keep my head down and keep on trucking.

Saying the "Clipper is ace" only makes it worse! Haha

It's a very long time to rank up now. Not sure if it's by design to make faction rank more "meaningful" as a long-game prod or what the intention is. I made Baron pre-1.3 where it was much easier, and got Viscount months later.

I've been working on Federation rank recently in anticipation of the new Federation ships coming out, and it is quite a process indeed. I've done so many combat missions trying to rank up because that was the latest tip, but I've grown tired of 'Kill X amount of pirates' and 'dishonorable discharge' missions, so I'm now just spamming charity fund drives instead :(

What I would like to see, is a Naval Promotion Path in which you are specifically contracted by the respective navies to achieve certain combat goals like CZ assignments or logistical support roles. Someone has to haul those armaments after all! Do your duty to the auxiliary navy and get promoted! I'm not talking about the periodical assignments we see today, I'm talking about dedication to the cause. Tying the naval progression to minor faction alignments seems a little silly to me.

Agreed. Rather like Frontier. ;) Makes sense.

Hey all

As a follow up, Tamar did the trick. I did 4 or 5 charity missions and got an imperial navy ascension mission. I'm now ranked Outsider!

Thanks all for the feedback, it was extremely helpful.
