Don't be discouraged

I predict ED will not sell that well when it is first released.

This will be mainly because people will want to have the full package of free movement(your ship, planets, stations). I certainly won't be getting it for this very reason.

Just make sure you ship the free movement expansion soon.

I predict your completely wrong and it's a runaway block-buster :p

It will not sell tens of millions but it should do well on release.
There will be plenty to do when it's released, planet landing and running around could be an extra year away.

Not everyone cares if they cannot run around a planet killing stuff.

It doesn't have to sell "well" according to AAA games. It has to sell good enough to break even and bring profit and convince stakeholders continue project.

FD in their shareholder reports don't predict huge numbers, they predict slow sales increasing as word of mouth spreads.

Maybe people conditioned to FPS play will feel the need to wait - others not so much.

The expansions will ship as and when they are ready.

Yes i don't expect huge sales. Why, its a niche game of very old franchice. Unkown by young generation of gamers. How ever when this game is good. Also apeal to larger crowed. It might be discoverd. Then you get this fenomina of a sleeper hit. Starting slow but getting better.

I am not really bothered about walking around my ship tbh, I did play arena commander and well all the walking about was a bit annoying for me, it just felt like walk walk animation walk walk animation (oh get on with it already) but that is just my opinion of it.

I predict it will be a good seller, I think youtube will be the key to exposing the younger generation to this game.

Why free movement? I want everything from my pilot seat available because that is essentially what I need. K, it would be nice to walk around my ship once... once!

Niche ?
Got to be a joke.
Space games are a massive genre that has been consistently ignored by the major publishers because they think they don't make any money. Guess what. Almost every time there's a space game released it's a massive seller.
Why aren't there more of them ?
I have no clue other than commercial short-sightedness.
The suits and the bean counters think that science and space and techno genres don't sell. They're idiots. They don't see that what you're actually selling is the future. People want the future.

Same goes for scifi stuff on TV.

It is quite possible that by the time of Actual release ... most people who want the game will have already brought it and would have been playing the gamma.

Once Beta 1 hit's we will have a much better defined idea of the direction (and FD's execution of that direction) of Elite: Dangerous ... and so will the larger masses .. and if it is as good as we all expect it to be .. I think it will do well in Pre-release sales (Gamma).

Honestly I think that FD should drop the access to Gamma once Beta 1 is released and just stick with the old "Pre-order and get your copy of the game on retail release day" ... as getting access to the gamma won't show up on "Retail release day" sales .. and apart from a game being rubbish - nothing hurt's a great product more than low sale's

That's far too long, they need to then release just the ships free movement expansion before people lose interest and Star Citizen wipes its butt with ED.

Why they would buy space game and expansion just for walking around simulation? Why they would lose interest in core game which is already interesting?

And SC comes out at the end of 2016. That's two years minimum.

So is this an SC Rocks and E: D sucks thread then?

As a backer of both I've been extremely underwhelmed by SC so far whereas ED has consistently impressed me. Personally I don't care about the walking around expansion, it might be nice to wander around the stations and meet up with players, maybe, but I'm certainly not going to hold my breath.

Jeez people, at least look at the thread starters name before writing rebuttal threads.

Y'all posting in a troll thread.

I'm not too bothered about it selling in huge numbers. As long as they make a profit so they can make the expansions I'll be happy. I expect it will snowball from there as this game is going to be awesome. It's already feeling pretty great as it is.
