You know, like Formidine Rift, Orion Arm? I probably sound really stupid right now.

I swear I saw a map once? Anyone able to show it to me?

if u manage to import your flight data (i use the EDdiscovery)
it'll show you your flightpathes within this map

It should be pointed out that these are, at best, quasi-official names, given by the cartographically-inclined CMDRs who contributed to the Mapping Project thread. To the best of my knowledge most of them have never been formally recognized in official ED lore.

At least the Conflux, Hawkings Gap and the Formidine Rift are official lore. All of them appeared on galnet (there was a CG for those regions) and the abandoned sites in these areas actually have those regions in their name.
Don't know about other region names though.

Well, there were the two regions as noted (the Formidine Rift was game lore first, not a name the GMP came up with), and the name Colonia. Perhaps there were also some tourist beacons, but I have no idea.
A counter-example where FD went with a different name than what was on the GMP already was Metztli, and perhaps there were other GMP-named systems in the area? I'm not sure.
Still, the post was about regions, so yeah. Personally, I wouldn't expect FD to officially go with "Wagar's Reach" though (what with naming things after living persons), but they still might decide to do so. Most of them should otherwise be fine though - oh, and of course the names of the galactic arms come from real life.

Colonia was actually a POI name submitted to the GMP on July 1st 3302, the person who submitted it PMd me several names for the newly discovered nebula that Jaques was discovered in, and we decided on Colonia out of the list. I added it to the maps shortly after and FD officially recognized it as the name for the actual system Jaques was discovered in in an update that added Colonia Hub there not long after. This was in recognition of the players efforts to create a community out there via CCN. So it's both a system name in-game, and also a regional name on the community map.

3 of the GMP regional names are now official, (Colonia, Conflux, and Hawking's Gap), one other is a Procedural name that was never renamed by the community (Hyponia), and as you mentioned there are a few real life regional names (the ones the IAU have named) that won't ever be renamed. The rest are unofficial and not sanctioned, just explorer submitted. :)

Orion's Arm??

Never mind that you want Onion's Head!!

Seriously though you should download EDDiscoery here: https://github.com/EDDiscovery/EDDiscovery/releases

And hook yourself up with a EDSM account here: https://www.edsm.net/

Which have been suggested above :)

Various options on the 3D display map of EDD will give you a very clear indication of the regions and your progress through them.
