There I was happily travelling in supercruise from iBootis to Chango Dock at a right old lick of about 18c when I decided to check if I could increase my scanner range whilst travelling at that speed, sounds innocent enough doesn't it.

Well, I haven't rebound 'all' the keys yet so the default for increase scanner range is PageUp ... guess what button is bound right beside it ... yes, that's right, it's the 'Eject Cargo' button :S guess which one I hit!

Lesson learned ... don't be lazy, rebind those buttons.
 
We can eject in supercruise?
I wonder if you ever can find them again (or if it's possible at all), they should emit as a signal source (I wish)
 
I found out the hard way that YES, you can definitely eject cargo in super-cruise, I wonder if it's part of the game dynamic or would it be considered a bug ?

I did go looking for them but travelling at that speed ... no chance :(
 
Yep I did this by accident with Voice Attack - for some reason it would pick up random stuff and think it was jettison cargo.

Needless to say voice attack has no command to jettison cargo now
 
i removed this keybind before i even entered PB1 the first time (while setting up my controls). I saw it, couldn't imagine a single scenario where i'd want to do this, and cleared the keybind.
you can drop cargo from the right ship panel...no need for a keybind ;)
 
Well, maybe if you are running some slaves and what not, and a large contingent of Fed's drop in to scan you, it might be nice to quickly eject them...But hard to say.

They're also travelling at 18c so they'll be in the nearest star system next month :cool:

There is a bug around this funnily enough, though relatively benign. You can drop one cargo canister in supercruise, then eject another canister in normal space and pick it up. You get a spurious message saying your cargo hold is full (it isn't)

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. First thing I did was remove the 'dump-all-cargo' bind as soon as I saw it on the option screen. I knew I would end up doing the exact same thing, many many times.
 
I've not tried/had to jettison any cargo yet so I'm wondering how it works?

Does a single activation dump everything? Or one 'type' of cargo? Or a single container? Or can you specify?

the keybind drops everything.

in the right panel of your ship, cargo tab, you can select what to drop and how many containers

Can you imagine, someone who has spent considerable time getting their credits high enough to buy that ship they always wanted to have, and on the maiden voyage out of Chango Dock, they leave the station and immediately get bombarded with 16 containers travelling balistically... and they are reset back to a sidewinder....

Now that would be tragic ! :eek:

The word isn't ballistic, it's superluminal. And it would be devastating for anyone in the area.

Although in retrospect, nothing travels faster than light in Elite. The cargo was dropped mid frame shift, so it's just drifting somewhere.

I just ruined some one else his night just by mentioning this post.
he replied by saying he had switched to another button for jettisoning cargo and by saying so he activated his voice command and dumped 420 tons of liquor into a star.:eek:

fortunately he is a great sport and could laugh about it.
next time please keep your jinx to your self please.
