Or in my case; the detailed surface scanner……..
Decided to do a long haul passenger mission at the weekend, in my Asp: Take a scientist to a black hole some 5,353Ly away. It was only worth 15m Cr but I needed to do the run, to open up engineer Prof. Palin (just need those unknown fragments now!). And I thought, at the same time, get some “first discovered” in.
Well I managed the return journey – it took, I think, in total, about 22 hours, and after 13,903 level 2 scans, realised I forgot to pack the old detailed surface scanner!
Some interesting observations:
1. Plotting a “straight” course was difficult. My journey on the galaxy map looked like the Loch Ness monster
2. You can run out of bookmarks!
3. There were taxis at the black hole – go figure
4. A 3A fuel scoop was probably not the wisest of choices
5. I probably should have engineered the FSD to a level 5 (stripped down I squeezed 32Ly range)
6. Exploration still does not pay well – I earned 3.9m Cr in exploration data (not sure what I would have got had I had level 3 scans)
7. Loads of first discoveries. After 1,500 Ly from the bubble, they’re for the taking
8. I increased my rank of Ranger by only 10%
9. I didn’t see any aliens
Well, back at Salikians now, glad I did it, but won't be doing a journey like that for some time. For now; just looking to do some more of those well-paid passenger missions (been paying up-to 5m Cr for a few jumps) – but after reading the noise on the forums; may just use a Cobra for these
