DON'T HURT THEM!!!!!!! -My vow to never attack unless provoked.

Thargoids are like White Pointers, They have their own domain and are dong what they need to survive!

So far, I have yet to see an undeserved attack on a human craft by Thargoids. unless you are carrying desired cargo, the Thargoid will not go out of it's way to attack you. they even give you a warning before they open fire (which shows they are not merciless monsters out for blood, otherwise they'd just open fire).

to liken them to previous events, The Australian culling of sharks is a fantastic example;

-White pointers are curious creatures, sometimes they won't attack without inspecting the potential prey first. they are the only species of shark that sticks it's head out of the water to investigate (much like the Hyperdictions committed by the Thargoids).

- when sharks killed people who wandered into their waters, Australia's response was to go out and cull them for killing a very small potion of people in the scheme of things (for memory 20+ or so in the past 2 months at the time, more people die in car accidents) so we invaded their territory and started killing them (sound familiar.....)

- It was those whose compassion and understanding of the creatures who helped stop the mass culling, people have now developed nets as a non-hostile deterrent. rather than eradicate them, we learned to co-exist for the benefit of both sides (what we should be doing).

It is for this reason that I will not harm another Thargoid Unless it attempts to harm me in an unprovoked manner.

Who else will do the same?!

Take care! o7

A good slap on the wrist is more than adequet if a Thargoid attacks. That's all I'll ever intend to do if one attacks me. Fire a rocket off into it, let it know that I can bite back if need be.

Well, I had my first hostile engagement with a Thargoid today. They shot first.

Tried to rescue an escape pod before the Cyclops got to it, but it started tractoring it just prior to it going into my cargo scoop. They didn't take it very well. As soon as they started shooting I responded in kind, but both of us walked away with comparable damage. Took out 3 hearts solo in my Anaconda before running out of missiles and SCBs. Got my hull down around 60% in the process.

Funny thing is, the ammo costs more than the repairs.

I suppose that counts as somewhat provoked, you were tying to save someone. so you did the right thing in this scenario :)

Impressive effort on the engagement by the way! solo ain't bad :) o7

Thanks :). When I saw those red lights come on I figured I was screwed, but it was a very entertaining dogfight. In the end, nobody died and I got the pod, so I call it a win. My poor Conda will need a fresh coat of paint, though.

Too bad we can't take out their engines or powerplant like we can with human NPCs. That's what I do if I get engaged by a target I have reason not to destroy (usually faction rep related). Just leave 'em there adrift for awhile while they contemplate their actions.

Both factions of Thargoids are not friends to humanity. The Oresrian Thargoids (peaceful) are running from the Kaxian Thargoid faction and using Humans (harvested from Escape Pods) as a Human shield.

So any Alien race that is collecting humans in escape pods are certainly not our friends. We should consider harvesting humans as a war crime and prepare for war or at least put the
Oresrian in between us and the Kaxians.

Those are eggs and are probably going to hatch soon....

Whilst I appreciate and share your overall sentiment, you have one point wrong. They will attack unprovoked. Yesterday I was hyperdicted and my ship shut down. The Thargoid immediately opened fire on me and my ship did not reboot. I was helpless and my ship destroyed. This was different to what I've seen with hyperdictions pre 2.4.

I use limpets to avoid this situation. I lure the Thargoid out of the cloud flying backwards, then boost and evade when they try to scan. Yesterday one of my brave little limpets snatched an escape pod from the beam, the Thargoid just sat there looking all sad and confused.

Well soemone isnt pulling their weight or doing their civic duty. Guese I will have to kill double on your behalf.

Well. seen as i was hyperdicted by 3 of them, and shot at before my ship even rebooted from the EMP, on my cargoless gunless Anaconda; i think i'll just go 5th freedom on them.

Well, I probably wont intentionally shoot at them for now mostly because I would just get a rebuy anyway. I remember them well from oh so long ago and they cost me dearly many times. They were not friendly then and you can bet that before long, they wont be friendly here and now. They mostly dont shoot you as long as you take nothing and give them what you got when they want it, dont be too slow about it either. Thats mostly, it appears that sometimes they are their same old selves. Thats not really what I call friendly. When and if I can I will be properly armed to the teeth so I can do my civic duty. I might even have to take one for the team but do my duty I will.

My theory is still that they have been searching for something - and now they possibly found it and are collecting. For example, what if there was a rogue Guardian AI that could even hide in a human being's nervous system? Maybe those escape pods the Thargoids are collecting containg essentially living time bombs, and they are doing us a cruel but necessary favour collecting and disposing of them?

Ever heard of Occam's razor?

We can spend a lot of time finding increasingly complex and farfetched justifications why Thargoids do what they do, but in the end it doesn't matter.

They scoop up escape pods.
They attack with lethal force without getting fired upon first.

They are hostile. Plain and simple.

Interesting? were you carrying some type of cargo that was valuable to them?

for all we know, because of our initial shoot first ask questions later tactic. is it any wonder they probably see us as a threat.

Yeah... don't flash your lights at them either...

I erm..

...learned the hard way.

I have too :) I was having a nice one way conversation with one, didn't turn hostile either :)
