Newcomer / Intro Don't Panic!

The other day I was merrily zapping stuff in a warzone while enjoying the overkill that is the Vulture (against smaller NPCs, that is). Then I took a stray hit from something big and made a big hole in the canopy. Emergency oxy runs out in 5 minutes... better go fix it then.

Problem was, I was in a system where the only station is 80k ls away. Now, to get up to speed in supercruise and travel that far was going to be cutting it fine. However - it seems you can still do hyperspace jumps with a busted canopy. Jumped to a nearby system where I knew there was a station only a few ls from the jump-in point, and arrived at the sock with over a minute to spare.

Something to remember in those first moments when you think OMG I'm gonna die.

Right! With your canopy blown the first instinct is often to panic, but what you really need to be doing is taking a minute to select your best destination. A station that doesn't require a long long SC trip is good, and it's also recommended that you select a station where they offer REPAIRS.

I had to do just that yesterday.

In fact I first stopped at an outpost that was 1000ls from the warzone, and found that they had no repair facilities

Luckily stopping there had replenished the oxygen supply so I was able to Hyperspace back home and dock at the fully outfitted station with plenty of time to spare.

I have found this method works well for me and will share it with you.

I normally fit D rated LS for everyday usage. If I am going into a WZ and any other type of high intensity fighting, I will swap it out for an A rated one. Going from 7m 30s to 25m really helps.

You can also use the A rated life support to manage power in the Vulture - setting life support to priority 2 means it will switch off when you deploy hardpoints. You then have 25 minutes of air to make your kills. This lasts a long time if you stow your hardpoints between engagements and only choose the biggest, baddest targets. You should be able to last an hour, and you don't have to worry about your canopy getting shot out.

I do this in warzones. It reminds me to jump out to claim the bonds. Call it a combat timer :)

Well, unless you decide to push it and keep fighting into the low single digits...

... Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and all, I was hoping for more cheery content after reading "don't panic".

Not really liking the idea of my canopy being blown to bits - which stations sell duct tape?
