Don't quite understand the requirements for Selene Jean

I just looked at her requirements and she wants me to mine 500t of ore. But does that mean I just need to mine it and not pick it up or do I have to pick it up and refine it?
As a side question any suggestions on a cheap mining build I only need it to get Selene Jean

You have to pick it up and refine it. But you can dump it if you don't have cargo space. And you can mine anything for the 500t.

I think a T6 would be a cheap option.

Actually I have a T7 already I might kit that out for mining and thanks for the answer!

After you unlock her, she will want 10T of Painite. Be sure to get some while you're doing the 500 or you'll have to go back out.

This is a good example of a game designer trying a really cool idea, of things just unlocking as you play normally.

Of course, this would have been more effective if the engineer provided mining upgrades.

And Bill Turner wants 50 Bromellite, so it's handy if you can get that while mining aswell. He does require an Alioth system permit though.
