Don't reply to this if you've NEVER had an issue with Binds File please!

I'm fed up with ED Borking my Binds Files.
I used the empty Generic Joystick File to insert values I know worked.....NAH!

Now how can the supplied file FAIL with the following?

There where errors when loading preset file: CHProducts.binds
There are multiple entries of binding "ThrottleRange" Only the first will be used
There are multiple entries of binding "HyperSuperCombination" Only the first will be used
There are multiple entries of binding "Supercruise" Only the first will be used
There are multiple entries of binding "Hyperspace" Only the first will be used
There are multiple entries of binding "DisableRotationCorrectToggle" Only the first will be used
There are multiple entries of binding "OrbitLinesToggle" Only the first will be used
Failed to find GUID for device: 06EC0F3
There are multiple entries of binding "HeadlookDefault" Only the first will be used
There are multiple entries of binding "HeadlookResetOnToggle" Only the first will be used
There are multiple entries of binding "HeadlookSensitivity" Only the first will be used
Failed to find GUID for device: NoDevice
There are multiple entries of binding "OrderHoldPosition" Only the first will be used
Failed to find GUID for device: NoDevice
Failed to find GUID for device: {NoDEvice}

There where errors when loading preset file: GenericJoystick.binds
parsing XML, line 755: not well-formed (invalid token)

this reeks of volts drop or loose connections\faulty device etc
so you possibly say? works fine other games maybe?...….. but elite is ultra sensitive I blame so many controls or sumthin
still lets try and work out whats going on,( adequate power to devices is my current prime suspect if cables & connections seem good and solid)
first get your binds working as best you can in game
and ensure you save the changes so they are set and tested in game (custom preset)
then follow the renaming process etc found in my lost binds guide thread stickied to the top of this sub forum follow it to the letter
once done backup your binding folder(diff dir) as suggested this will be your "I know these binds are good backup"
when done report back
eliminate the possible power concern with a usb mains powered hub

Well, in all fairness, I was going to try to help out since I have a lot of experience in this are but since the OP said "don't reply", I'll assume they meant that. 👹 Best of luck.

I had to reinstall my windows and the game doesnt take my binds no matter how i feed it to it, not even with ketchup.
maybe it wants marmelade ?
anyway seems like the next hour or so i will have to rebind 65 buttons.

Thanks for the sentiment, it’s not helpful to get a plethora of “I’ve no problem”
People who actually have had issues and found out what’s went wrong are more helpful.

Binding files are an absolute nightmare, I kinda wish FD had made a proper .binds management system from the start.

Right now, always, always back up your binds file once you have your bindings worked out. I can't count the number of times I cursed FD with many colourful Anglo Saxon derived four letter words in very highly descriptive strings just about every time there was an update.

If your throttle is unplugged when the game starts - binds settings wipe. Joystick not plugged in - binds wiped. Never could understand why we had to manually manage them to the degree that we do, it's kinda insane for such an incredibly complex game.

I think everybody concurs that it is rubbish. But the bindings don't necessarily get wiped if you start the game without having a device plugged in.

It's just that the game does not display any binding sets which reference devices that are not plugged in - the configuration is still there; just inaccessible. If you quit, plug in and restart the game, it will select the appropriate binding again. If you've done the best practice thing and renamed your custom binds file plus editied the name field in top of the file, then you won't accidentally over-write it by going into the bindings and setting things in the default "custom" binding.

Yes it's crap, and we should not have to do it. But it's not quite as bad as you make out.

Aahh.. See, we're talking about the early days here, like back in Beta and original release, before I learned about that stuff. Regardless, even then, more than once I tried logging out and quitting E: D, then reconnecting before restarting E: D, and it certainly didn't work on at least two occasions in the early days. I now have multiple back ups of my binds with dated folders, so I can go back to an old set up if, for some reason, I think I've messed up a few too many changes.

Honestly, it's horrible. Considering the level of detail in this game, it still hurts my brain that the same care was not given to the controller setup. Each to their own, of course, just because it reallyP's me off, doesn't mean it P's you (or anyone else) off to the same degree, and I think we can both agree on that.

I'd still love to see proper in game bindings management added to this game.
