Engineers Don't think you understand

I see a number of "Engineers needs this" and "Engineers don't have that" and so on.

Don't think you quite understand. Once you realize that this is not an open world sandbox game then Engineers makes a lot more sense. I have played open world sandbox games and this is not it, this is a arcade shooter with trading and mining bolted onto the side like an unnecessary appendage. Engineers is a dispirit attempt to justify mining and trading. Why would you mine, well to make money you know since there is no crafting you might use the mined mats for. Now we have Engineers and a reason to mine. Why would you trade, well to make money since there is no way to sell mined mats or items you may have crafted (you know if there was crafting) to any one else. Well now we have Engineers and a reason to hunt down 200 landmines or what ever.

Elite is THE sandbox game! wow actually that flabbergasted me - which rarely happens... I spend well over 1000 hours in this Version and did about the same back in the early 80s when it was all vector graphic... Elite is one wonderful and HUGE Sandbox and they Keep meking more tools for us to enjoy it... if you dont see that and cant appreciate it well i dont know. But you clearly lack an understanding of a sanbox in the first place!

*shrug* sticks and stones and so on. I will concede that it is a good look'n game, I don't like the game play as I consider it limited but as art this game is amazing.

I think what the OP is trying to say is that the Engineers finally gave a compelling reason for many of the activities in game that very few people bothered with previously as they were so tunnel visioned into the latest "best moneymaking" activity.

At least there was already the option of doing the "not best" moneymaking activities, too. If I want to buy an Anaconda, I can go trading. Do missions. Hunt pirates. Scan planets. All kinds of things, really, and some may get me there faster, but all eventually will. Engineers turn this on its head: to get your upgrade you have to Do All The Things to get the required materials.

I'm rather curious as to what the OP's idea of a Sandbox game is?[rolleyes] And how long the OP has played ED.

Label it however you want, who cares? It's an MMO, it's a sandbox, it's a space shooter. It's all a vain attempt to sound informed and justify some pet feature (guilds, crafting, trading, player stations, etc) because other games of that genre tend to have that feature. It is what it is and you like it or you don't, these silly attempts at cleverness are tiring. You can call chocolate ice cream whatever you want, either way, it's delicious.

EVE and 169 hours

So....why are you here if this apparently lacks what you want while another game does?

I'm rather curious as to why people believe any feature, coded in any way whatsoever, is perfectly fine ... so long as it's in a sandbox game.

Player: "Yeah, this new feature - I lost all my game progress, my cat died and for some reason I have a weird craving to eat glue."
Typical Response: "Stop complaining! Obviously you don't realize it's a sandbox!"

(I'm avoiding the "is Elite a SB game" debate.)

I like to think I have a pretty clear understanding of the term 'sandbox', and when I apply the fact I have chosen not to do a single thing related to Engineers since it's release and I have not noticed a difference.....that's pretty sandboxy. ;)

If I had to wager a guess, because he's not looking for a sandbox in elite. Obviously if he's found satisfaction from not looking at it as a sandbox, then it isn't what he's here for. Why you made the assumption that's what he wanted after reading the post is what I'm curious about though.

I dont think you understand.
This is a sandbox were you play as the pilot you want to be within the elite universe.

It has no end game or silly objectives to fill checkbox style , therefor its a sandbox , the engineers are just a way to add optional risky customisable options to your ship.

If Elite is not a sandbox because engineers not being to your taste does that mean EVE is not a spaceship game because you cant fly the ship with a joystick?

Star Wars Galaxies, was A TRUE sandbox.
In its early days... yeah it was cool.
Then they ruined the lore and made anyone able to be a jedi
