Dont worry mate its just a bug!

Well, i talked a friend into buying elite and after a couple of weeks decided to show him some mining he really wanted to see core mining. Tried entering a private group sadly that didn't work, we didn't exist in the same game. Dont worry mate it's just a bug. Explained to him that the PWA wasnt working correctly right now and we would have to fly in large circles in order to find some cores. Dont worry mate it's just a bug. After a bit of searching the cores found us, they would appear right in front of us out of nowhere and I dont mean turn gold with the PWA I mean actually spawn right in front of us. Dont worry mate it's just a bug. So we finally get down to it and I explain that when the fissures are highlighted blue it means they are visable and grey means they are instructed, after a few misses with the seismic launcher we realised that something was not right and it was displaying blue when it should be grey. Dont worry mate it's just a bug. Doing well on his first core he manages 14 chunks, well not exactly 14 as it's really 13 as 1 is stuck in the asteroid. Dont worry mate it's just a bug. We finally decide that maybe I should show him laser mining so we select my carrier and head home, low wake and realise that we have been actually been selected to a different carrier instead and have to switch to the carrier we want again. Dont worry mate it's just a bug. Getting to the carrier I tell my buddy I need to log back in as I cant transfer my loot to the carrier as the option is grey at the moment, a quick log in and out will fix it. Dont worry mate it's just a bug. Well it's just me out in the black now as my mate ain't been back. How can this be a finished product.

I have gotten friends to give ED a whirl too . . . and I am the only one left, the others refuse to return because of stuff like this.
Too bad they can't actually return the game. Unfortunately Steam's test period is woefully short to test a game like this. Because the sad reality is, once Frontier has your money, they have no financial motivation to fix these nuanced bugs. If they were getting a ton of returns with "it doesn't work!" messages, that would motivate them.

What I've never understood is why Frontier acts so quickly to fix bugs that actually benefit players, the proverbial "gold rushes", while leaving in the game-ruining bugs.

I've wondered if FD prefers having a high turnover rate among their players to reduce server costs. Keep the grind stacked sky high and littered with bugs to make sure all but the dedicated CMDRs can only stomach the game for so long. This is the only game I've played where I can't get friends who used to play to get on with me again here and there. They've all relegated ED to the 'never-again-bin'. I've given up my dreams of having a Squadron.

The primary (set of) bugs that drove my mates away were Wing bugs. Dropping out 100km away from each other, dropping out in different instances, etc. Everytime we tried to meet up, it was a dice game of 'let's-see-when-ED-let's-us-play'. Often I would drop in, then one friend, then the last guy drops in a different instance. So we all have to go back in Supercruise and roll the dice again. Had one friend pull the plug while I was training him on mining. He was fed up with Wing bugs already, and here we were trying to detonate cores and his Charges simply would not detonate. He was pretty miffed, until one finally went off . . . the moment he planted it, without triggering it, killing him. He logged out and never returned.
