"Dormant" Bounties

After death, outstanding bounties seem to go dormant but stay on record..nyone know how this works, will bountys ever become active again after death?

Are you shire your not just in a different jurisdiction? If I get done for smugling in fed space and I go independent the fine is dormant but if I go back to fed space... :/ I havent noticed it going dormant after death for any other reason ime

I was wondering how this works too as I have a 400k fine with Feds which is listed as dormant.

I haven't traveled back to Fed space to test it out, but would be good to know what this status really means, if there are any CMDRs out there that may know??

I've started collecting key info screenshots due to the poor forum search function. So excuse the cut n paste layout, but hope this helps;

When your ship is destroyed, you escape and return to a starport. Any bounties and fines for that jurisdiction will have to be paid before you can get back into your ship (this is the local police exacting justice).

However, other factions simply assume you perished and "close" any case against you, causing fines and bounties they issued on you to become dormant.

Dormant fines are frozen - they don't tick up into bounties.

Dormant bounties are hidden to everyone except you and the authorities that issued them. No-one else can detect them, regardless of what scanner they use. However, should you be scanned by the appropriate authorities, or worse yet, be detected for a new crime by them, then the associated fine and bounty will become active again - they know that you're not dead!

So dormant fines and bounties act as your "criminal past" that can come back to haunt you, but only in the affected jurisdictions.

Thanks for digging that up DJ007! +rep

Kinda makes sense, so in short they 'close the file' on you, others don't see your past but if they identify you still 'alive and kicking' in their space again, your previous fine becomes active again and it 'on like Donkey Kong' again.

hmmm in that case I better stay clear of Feds for a while to come!

Yeah, it's not all bad with dormant fines upon destruction. My little hauler just got destroyed by a Viper (having released a trail of mines that proved ineffective, so i'll now trade that dubious mine launcher!) and its rebuy was approx 4k with an oustanding smuggler cargo fine of 4.7k for a total 8.7k, however, a local system fine of 16k is now dormant.

One more system to avoid out of 400 billion! I'll count the incident as a financial win me thinks :)
