General / Off-Topic Dost thou even hoist, brother?

A large scale study on strength training has finally been done, and demonstrates substantial benefit in reducing death rates from all causes.

Here are some takeaways :
  • 30 minutes strength training per week is worth 2 and a half hours of "brisk walking" ( edit: for cardiovascular protection, its better than cardio)
  • lifting weights/using machines in the gym is roughly equivalent to bodyweight calesthenic type exercises with no equipment at home for mortality reduction
  • unlike aerobics, the strength training reduced cancers by around 30%
  • maximum benefit comes from doing both kinds of exercise
The anti cancer effect is surprising. Typically any growth promoting factor increases cancer risks. Considering the reductive component of the exercise, we have to ascribe a substantial risk increase for anabolic nutrition and pharmaceuticals, which people should avoid unless doing the training.

Doing sports regularly several times per week undoubtedly reduces the risk of diseases during the life.

For my part, I do swimming and intense walking, which are very beneficial to my overall health.

If I did nothing, I think that my general condition would be much more uncomfortable, especially after a certain age.

Sadly, last couple of years my exercise consists of light stretching and intense standing around.
However might the sports and lifting heavy things be good against cancer and cardiovascular diseases, it's most definitely not good for your joints and spine and my body is a shining example of that.

You don't have to move to train. No joints have to be harmed.
You need not bear any weight at all, not even a shirt.

Simple stance training breaks down the biggest toughest baddest guys to tears.

Go do Mabu. Hold the stance for 10 minutes. After your legs are liquified, try a pushup posture, lower down once over 10 minutes. Finally, hold a V abdominal stance, while reading the Times. 10 minutes.
That alone will work most of the muscles in your body isometrically.

Rotate through front stance, back stance and Mabu on different days. Progress simply by standing around intensely a little longer.

Can't do Mabu? Try a wall sit instead till you get stronger. We all have to start somewhere.

All of that standing around counts as "strength training". People on the ICU with heart attacks do "strength trsining" once they stabilize.

Hold the stance for 10 minutes?
That takes a lot of training to get to.
I can't do 10mins (especially the northern shaolin stance), and this after 2.5 years of training.

Only if they are looking to die again. Specially if they never worked out before
Been there done that and had several friends never come back.
Ya give people enough money for a study they will come up with the results you want and support.
