Double your combat bonds! (Explained in 3 minutes)

Thanks for the video. Opinions probably differ, but this powerplay ranking concept is probably the worst game play idea I've ever encountered. As it stands now some are making 2b an hour killing bugs at spire sites. The fact you had 37b already shows that credits are readily available without Powerplay. If Powerplay included chasing down Pirate activity sites and had rankings based on powering up up settlements, rescuing folks from outposts and the actual day to day gameplay, that would be quite different.

Oh no doubt that it is truly terrible.

It did allow to translate some 1-2b/hr of farming into the equivalent of almost 4b/hr (though the 10,000 merit haul grind was excruciating, it was mostly doing while multitasking so not toooooo bad.)

That being said, and with 100b in the bank, I am set for credits for life and it’s one less thing to ever worry again about.

Not to derail but do you find that some of the activities lose attraction when you're flush with credits? I have over 100b as well, but I switch activities several times a month, from bug hunting to scanning flowers 10K LY outside the bubble, then back to raiding settlements or farming bounties.

In my case my activities are all AX-centric.

Credits never really were the bottleneck for what I do in-game - materials for engineering and synthesis (LOTS of synthesis) are.

Give me a way to buy Guardian Technology Components or Exquisite Focus Crystals and I will gladly hand over 99b of my 100b…

Every now and then I will however go and do non-AX stuff. All of it is far too easy though … and I quickly come back to doing crazy stuff in AX (I am presently trying to kill a Cyclops blindfolded while using only the verbal cues of a fellow commander… got 3 out of 4 hearts on our best run so far!)

Problem I see with using PP to increase your bonds, is the time spent hauling 10,000 merits better spent killing more thargoids.

For simplicity's sake, is spending 2 hrs doing AX more profitable than doing 1hr AX + 1 hr of hauling merits?

Not to mention the ratings decay, I guess this is only viable if you're planning to do this over a long period of time while maintaining your level 5 rating every week.

It’s definitely more than an hour hauling merits. It was probably closer to 3-4 in my case, at a leisurely pace while multitasking. If you were truly speedrunning it maybe you could do it in a couple of focused hours?

But then I had 37b to double … and that’s the collective haul of several weeks/months at this point.

Point is, going for 10,000 merits only makes sense with such a huge haul. But the 40% bonus at a meager 100 merits (which you can do in one quick trip) is extremely worthwhile even at much lower bond values.

Yeah true that. While typing that post I forgot that the more bonds you have with you, the better the outcome will be and you may only need to do this once in a long time.

Or if you have 40b sitting in your cache already and want to double it.

edit; nm, I see it was worked out already

I was able to get 1500 merits in 2 trips today in a shieldless T9. The problem I see is that Powerplay suffers (who cares, right?) because you can easily just dump the garrison supplies 17LY away where they are waaaay over the needed amount, and it doesn't really help the power at all. It's just abusing Powerplay for the gains. That's why I did it actually

You can still get a decent bonus just by doing a fraction of the 10,000 merits; I believe it's rank two (or possibly three) that gives the basic 20% bonus, scaled up to 30/40/50% depending if ALD is third/second/first place on the powerplay leaderboard.

That’s pretty clearly explained in the video :)

I'm pledged to Antal because enforcer cannons are the last PP module I unlocked. I've been meaning to buy more cytos but I haven't found the motivation yet.

This is one of the reason powerplay was a failure... pledging for the rewards and not for the ethos.

Meh...
Because I have no interest in the ethos of Powerplay I decided that just signing up for the rewards would feel too much like an exploit for me to be comfortable with it.
There have been times when I have felt tempted by one or other of the rewards but never enough to give in.

Same goes for the bug war. Outside of AXI and a few small groups, people farm spire sites and ignore the narrative.

Same happens for the CGs... (I've never contributed CGs for enemy powers).
