Douglas Adams vision

It's not really a film, a book, or for that matter a song. It's a radio show.

First, yes... but he penned the books, TV show and then struggled for years to make a movie work (and it doesn't) without a "big bad".

But they're all HGTTG as he didn't farm it out.

To me, it was (and is) the TV show. It was the first thing I became aware of, then the books - which start off well but get weird(er) and then nonsensical. I need to re-read them, but the latter ones where they're all strangers, a sudden change from a plane to... I forget where, there's some sandwich making, and a finality (that isn't) just make it hard work. I think that's by-design though. I was a lot younger when I last read them. I've never made it through the radio show - but I've always wanted to.

Scarily enough, it's said that Doug was actually very pleased with the movie.

I think of them as parallel universes... there is the prime universe radio series
and diverse, TV, book, movie etc universes where the story is the same but...

Also, if you translate the word Magrathea into Oresrian, it comes out as "Raxxla"

I'm 99% sure he never lived to see the movie... and whilst he'd written several versions of the screenplay, I've no idea who wrote the one we got (or if it was one of his... though I somehow doubt it).

I can live with the idea of them all being parallel. The story itself seems to play with the idea on several levels as it is! :)

If two white mice run across my cockpit, i’m running like hell...
Bit if a misquote there. They are Running Hell, just like everything else.

Could it be related to Elite somehow ?

it's funny because it looks like it could

This looks like the troll post of the year. Now where's my Towel?

I just spent a couple of minutes trying to figure this thread out, but I give up.

OP - what are you talking about? All I see I see is a photo of some books, and a your list of references. How are the 2 connected?
Adding data into the probability drive.......

The hitchhiker's guide series was a long time before frontier Elite came out I believe. If anything any references you might see relatable are frontier giving reference to Douglas Adams, being the author to The hitchhiker's guide. If you ever get a chance you should give those books a read. Somehow it makes silly and Syfy work together

Whilst Beagle Point is actually named after the ship of the commander who tagged the system I still think we need a CG to build a small outpost there called "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe".

You know, the entire book collection could be located at Beagle Point's new station as a "rare commodity" - just imagine how much you could see the entire collection for once you get back home. :geek:

I would have two fingers hovering over the play and record buttons before noon to record it without any announcer.
If I'd have known they were to be released on CD many years later I probably wouldn't have been so pedantic.
Who am I kidding? I'd have still done it!
If you had have done you would have a complete and unedited version of the radio show. The CD release is edited. Episode 3 (Fit The Third) has90 seconds missing due to a copyright issue with some of the music used in it.

Hmm, I haven't seen those C90/C120 Cassettes (kids - search the internet) for a while to be able to listen to those 90 seconds. No point in looking for them as I won't find them. I'll look for something else and then happen to come across them.

They did the same for The Young Ones when that TV series was released on DVD. Luckily I still have it on Betamax :)

The missing 90 seconds occurs just after the Heart of Gold lands on Magrathea. As Arthur, Ford, Zaphod and Trillian set foot on the planet Shine on Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd can be heard in the background as the crew express there thoughts about on the planet, that is until Zaphod tells Mavin to "can it" as its him playing the music. Arthur then asks Marvin what else he can do and he responds with Beatles's track. So either Pink Floyd or The Beatles objected. (If it was Pink Floyd it would be weird because Douglas knew them personally and even played on stage with them in 1994)

I'd prefer a restaurant at the center of the galaxy at Sag A* instead. Could be called Milkyways: The restaurant at the center of the Galaxy as opposed to Milliways: The restaurant at the end of the Universe. Alternatively it could be called Sag-A*-Ways instead of Milkyways. It would be a better homage instead of a direct copy

IS there a tribute to Douglas Adams hidden somewhere? I'd love to find the heart of gold parked up in the horse head nebula!!
