Comments by DB and Posts has been made to having some kind of tribute in game to Douglas Adams author of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in the game, which in my mind would be a excellent tribute to a great man.

"deusx_ophc, Liqua - yes, as deusx says, sadly Douglas Adams died a while back of a heart attack. I was honoured to have known him - he was a really nice, interesting guy. He hated the whole Hollywood process - he was trying to get HHGTTG made into a film at the time. He was fascinated by Elite, too. We should have a dedication to him somewhere in the game (more than just the "Mostly Harmless" reference). "

What kind of a tribute would you like to see in game, if it happens?

Personally I'd like the legendary planet of Magrathea hidden somwhere for people to find, with a few clues in the Journals etc.

YES! 100% agree :D That's dead on what I was thinking reading the first part of your post :D It might have to be populated by mice!

You know I always imagined Hotblack Desiato ship to be like a Fer-De-Lance :D

HHGTTG said:
"Zaphod," he said in a quiet voice, "just look at some of these little star trolleys ..."
Zaphod looked and liked.
The craft they were looking at was in fact pretty small but extraordinary, and very much a rich kid's toy. It was not much to look at. It resembled nothing so much as a paper dart about twenty feet long made of thin but tough metal foil. At the rear end was a small horizontal two-man cockpit. It had a tiny charm- drive engine, which was not capable of moving it at any great speed. The thing it did have, however, was a heat-sink.
The heat-sink had a mass of some two thousand billion tons and was contained within a black hole mounted in an electromagnetic field situated half-way along the length of the ship, and this heat-sink enabled the craft to be manoeuvred to within a few miles of a yellow sun, there to catch and ride the solar flares that burst out from its surface.

Never though of that, but it fits quite nicely

Would love the Heart of Gold to be in the game somewhere.

Or Zaphod to be Galactic President :cool: (2 heads :D)

I would love to find the Infinite Improbability Drive, install it, boot the power, fire up the countdown, and...BOOM, my ship turns into a bowl of petunias

I think that as a tribute (depending on the depth of character type gameplay) if there could be a mission based around the visit to Magrathea and the Heart of Gold would be very cool. I'm not sure how the licencing would go with it but at the very least having the planet of Magrathea is a brilliant idea! Perhaps the Heart of Gold can be a space station orbiting around it with a great big thumbs up on the front of it.

How about having Towels as a commodity in the game? when a Thargoid ship attacks you could put a massive one over your ship and us it as a cloaking device???

Not again!

Totally agree on Magarathia though or maybe just a few more subtle things. Damn, I have to go and read the books again now!

I had the first four books in paperback,
now I have a Kindle ...
I can't afford to buy them until after Jan 4th (Damn you Elite: Dangerous !!!:p)

I remember lending my brother the fifth installment of the trilogy to taken on holiday with him... came back soaked in orange juice, all swollen and crumpled.

Git. :p

I actually watched the newer movie about a month ago - I thought it was a decent effort.

It missed some of the sublties of the books obviously, but it was a good fiim in itself, when Douglas's face appered at the end it did choke me up abit.

And seeing Marvin in the queue on Vogon made me smile.

Milliway's could feature somewhere out in the far reaches of the galaxy

Ah yes the famed Restaurant - That was the first book I read actually - I played the game of HH without understanding the references. Suffice to say, the coffee machine was very frustrating and jamming a fish in your ear was not the first thing to come to mind...

I played the game for HOURS and HOURS it was very frustrating, took forever to get the screening door to open... the only way I could finish it in the end was shameless cheating.

You can still play it using winfrotz :D
