>>Down sizing your ship and federal woes in PP<<

Ive been playing in open since PP launch, and entered the power play struggle after months of living alone in frontier systems on the fringe of civilisation. Since the beginning the goal for me was money and bigger ships. I got all the way to a C grade Anaconda before PP launched. I reduced to an A grade Python on launch, wanting a more versatile ship.

What I'm now mulling over is downsizing my ship again to reduce the insurance costs. My Python will cost near 9 million to replace. I only have enough cash for 6 re-buys before i'm broke.

No re-buy as yet, but it cant be far off. Its dangerous now in Federal space, Imperial wings are active in all systems that I enter to do my business. There does not appear to be appear to be much response from the Federal CMDR's top answer this imperial menace. All I see is individual traders or small fighters getting picked off alone. Im sure there is a better place to ask this question, but where are the Federal warriors?

Today I was interdicted by a pair of imperal FDL's, in the home system of the federal power. They were preying at will without any response from the federal CMDR's, maybe you were all at work (I'm on night shifts).

So will I reduce again to an Asp or Dropship? I''m not decided yet. I do love the Python, but I cant afford the rebuys I know are in the pipeline.

One thing that could bring the power balance back towards the Federation is seriously looking at the Dropship, and sorting it out to be useful. Be boring FD and make it similar to other ships of its class. I dont want the dropship to be "different". I want it to be boring, I want less armoured, more shields, faster, and well, more like an Asp. But keep the guns.

Having a more capable "cheap" fed only ship will bring more players back to fed.

See you out there

Take some time in solo to earn some credits or find systems away from where there's a lot of player activity. I do want to say that if you are having this problem, you probably should downgrade since you can't seem to avoid losing the bigger ship. I wouldn't though, I'd find a way.

Feds do seem to be getting kicked around though.

My hunch is that the majority of Feds are American and as such you won't see them in numbers until the evening, GMT -5 or later. Playing last night I was in a couple of Miltary Strike instances that were overrun with Feds. So they are definitely out there.

+ another plug for power-based chat....

OP you should try the DB Scout, it has good range for these missions plus firepower to deal with any PvE interdiction. And if you get interdicted by other CMDRs is highly unlikely they'll be flying a ship as fast as the DB Scout, so just boost away, thats what Ive been doing, escaped 1 FdL + Python + Vulture earlier this morning(they interdicted me twice in a row), and its been happening every day since 1.3.

Interesting, would you say Brits or Europeans are Empire inclined?

Cheers,

Drew.

It would be an interesting poll to take. But it seems like by the time I get on at night, imps are few and far between, yet I can see the impact they've had in undermining so I know they were around!.

I had the same concerns with my python. I switched to a faster ship. Having fun too.
Save the python for war.

You would be surprised how many times I've dumped a fully outfitted ship and bought a couple smallies and tricked them out, it's fun. I actually think it might be beneficial to get an Asp/Diamondback Explorer with the good FSD as a ferry and to leave a couple outfitted Vultures/Asps at key locations for each weeks power play. I also enjoy trying to change the influence in systems outside of the pplay bubble.

When I first started it was all get the biggest best most expensive ship with the best stuff which has it's uses but overall I think there's going to be several players with 25-30 ships in the 10-15 mil range 3-5 jumps apart putting a chokehold on certain areas of space. I think if Hull Reinforcement is addressed the Dropship will begin to have a better value again.

Get the Dropship and the Asp as a ferry ship with a good FSD. Slowly pump the Asp up and then grab a Explorer with a good FSD as your ferry. Get a Vulture etc. By the sounds of it you have way more income than I do right now.

Is a DB scout faster than a FDL?
I 'm going to downsize for exactly the same reason, too many nasty experiences in my anaconda
was going for an FDL

Get a Fer De Lance, it is the run away when things go bad ship. Or a Vulture and cut the insurance by 6 times and give a bit before you blow.

My bad, it seems that the ability to create polls has been taken away.

From the wikia:

DB Scout

Top speed: 283
Boost Speed 384

Fer-de-Lance

Top Speed: 260
Boost Speed 350

Edit: if you run away you will most likely escape with ~80% Hull, just remember to keep boosting, also double chaff.

From the little I could get from the OP's post due to a lack of specifics, if ship preservation and functionality are the goal, I'd suggest a nicely equipped Asp. Heavily shielded and with a full weapons load you'd still have reasonable cargo capacity and jump range and in the mid 20LY range. Keeping that in mind you can kill anything smaller and have the ability to jump away from anything bigger. Nothing bigger will be able to follow you as long as you boost right away and start a max range jump. Usually a couple of Navigation panel/ one up selections to take you to the furthest system just under 20 LY is enough to five the big ships the slip as long as you survive mass-lock, which is why you want good shields.

Yes, the Asp would make the best choice. I keep looking at my Python and I cant help but love it. Just keep it and just don't get it into danger. Its got 95% paintwork, and is a beam and burst laser brute. I could get a DBE maybe for the dangerous stuff, Or just an Asp for longrange fast runs.

I stripped down my python and sold it when PP came out. There was no sense in risking it to support my faction. I bought a vulture and outfitted it to the nines. Have nearlly 60 million in credits left over. Doing expansion for the merits and working on my rank with the empire and will buy a clipper as soon as i can to go undermine he federation with. I will certainly go back to the python eventually, but for now, it is just too costly for what i am doing.

I think that many people are missing the point that if you fight in Powerplay you have significant money on the line if your ship is destroyed but no income of note to balance it out. Downsizing your ship to reduce the amount of money you could lose skirts around the issue when it should be tackled head-on by making working hard for your power provide some sort of suitable income.
