Download size of PS4

Hello all of this great forum, I was just wondering if they released information on the size of the game come download time. I have fast internet so it don't bother me what the size is, I was just curious.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if its a little bigger than the Xbox version, since hopefully it will have some hi-res assets for the PS4 Pro (but I think it's the same download for Slim & Pro).

Even if it's bigger still no issue with me. The massive size of this game and all the bells and whistles is pretty impressive for 15gb.
 
Wait, don't tell me ED uses similar kind of procedurally generated engine as No man's sky ? PS4 is not good at handling that stuff

nah ED is 100x better, plus to be polite the reason the NMS engine is so bobbins is because it has to deal a hell of a lot more math than ED. put another way, ED has one galaxy and only has to generate stars and planets, while NMS has to generate 256 galaxies, all the stars, every planet, those planets surfaces and all the animals and plants and water. so it is doing more work which means it works slower. plus if ED works on xbox it will work on ps4

Just to add my 2c to the mix - the Cobra graphics engine has been around a long time. That's a good thing, because it's had plenty of time to be tested and optimized. Remember that the original Elite was one of the first games to use procedural generation in an almost miraculous way on the simplest of hardware. They are pioneers and pros at this.

NMS wrote their own graphics engine from scratch, so it's young and likely not that efficient yet. It's also doing entire layers of extra work that ED doesn't need to worry about at this time.

I bought NMS on day 1 because I needed a space adventure fix in my life seeing there isn't exactly a abundance of space exploration games. The first few weeks I enjoyed it. Traveling around, naming planets (anyone finds LV426 you're welcome), discovering new creatures, etc. But the novelty wore off quick. After doing the same thing over and over I played less and less. I ended up giving it to my nephew and never looked back. I admit the latest content they released looked cool, it never made me want to go back. When I caught my first glimpse of ED, I knew it was a game I could really enjoy and give me that space fix I still needed after playing NMS.

No it has its own, in house developed engine. As well as stellar forge for creating star sustems. Which are then saved to the servers.
 
shut up bill, i am trying to act smart and sane for once, here have these meds bought them off some guy selling pitch forks in dangerous discussions

There is no purpose to generate the ENTIRE universe on ones device when they are only going to be in or on one planet or solar system at a time. Unless one leaves a permenent marker, everything on planet changes upon a return to said planet. The entire universe does not generate onto your device, only the area that your in.

The star screen one can view is no different that an interactive screen saver basicly, none of the stars actually exist until you interact with it. Though one has the ability to go anywhere, it doesn't generate until you actualy get there. Unless one has left a significant change like a base, or a marker, everything on planet will regenerate upon your return. Hence the purpose of having to leave markers. The same goes for when you leave a solar system and go to another. And unless one is still actively involved with a planet or solar system, all records of accomplishment like name changes, will be gone in 6 months. As one flies above a new planet their exploring, one can view the generation process. It is less noticable now then it was in the earily days.

The problem I've had is, after two or three hours of playing, there is sooooo much data been saved it slows down ones abilities when using the controler. For instance the running jumpping technic is altered, thus one can goes as far per jump. I deliberately save, then turn off the game and restart. The only way to refresh is to restart the game from the selection on the ps4, not the ingame restart. However, what ever you have done, unless you have marked it, will be gone upon your restart except the location where you were at when you closed out the game.
