downloading through epic

is there a way to make the 4.0 update download through epic rather than having to wait 2 days with the dangerous launcher open while it "sync files"

if not could you make it so it downloads through epic like a normal game

Did you actually waited 2 days with the Frontier launcher open, waiting for it to sync files? Genuine question...

Asking because in my own case the wait was like 10 minutes or less, then the download proceeded at about 50-60 MB/s

Now, regarding your question, not sure it's possible to link your FDev account to an Epic store account (to download the game using Epic) unless you also buy the game on Epic Games
However, you can link your Frontier account to the Steam store, export an Elite key to Steam and then launch the game through either the Frontier launcher or the Steam Elite launcher (without buying the game again on Steam)

I assume OP already owns the game on Epic (in which case their Frontier account isn’t where ownership comes from and they can’t generate a Steam key.)

Horizons 4.0 isn’t uploaded to Steam or EGS, so it always downloads via the launcher. There is no way at present to download Horizons 4.0 from Steam or Epic.

Yes but if they want to play Horizons 4.0 they still need to download it via the launcher because Horizons 4.0 is not on Epic (or Steam.)

Right... shame on me...
i had NO idea and i assumed it should pop in the Steam/Epic library...

now it makes sense what Bruce was saying to Odyssey players demanding Horizons 4.0: you cannot buy Horizons 4.0, it's a courtesy gift for Horizons only players

EPIC FAIL.

It seems copies of the game owned through Epic no longer work.

Trying to open it sends the Launcher into a meltdown of saying the game needs to be bought/redeemed. Even though I've bene playing it for ages (since the free game was offered on Epic).

Yes, looks like Epic was down for a couple of hours. Funny how it manifested on the Frontier Launcher login but I guess that checks back with Epic somehow to see if you own the game. Typing credentials into it didn't work.
