Downtime while trading.

Had a thought about trading as a profession and how to perhaps tone it down without toning down profits.

Every profession has downtime, for example, if you're mining you have to scoop it up and at that point you're not actually making money at all you're picking floating stuff up.
Bounty hunting is the same while you're looking for things to shoot and exploring has the most downtime as you're flying thousands of LS from one planet for another to scan them.

So I was thinking if we had some sort of timer while your ship is being loaded with the cargo like, say 1s/t, I mean how realistic is it that you can load 500t of cargo instantly, eventually once you can walk around stations you would have to step out of your ship and buy the stuff of "market" if you may and see your ship being loaded, it's immersive and realistic which is what most people want in this game, I assume.

I am sure i'll get a big backlash of people saying " but I don't want to wait around and that would cut into my gameplay time" which is fair I think, but as a minimum if we ever have an Ironman mode in Elite could we have something like that there?

I'm guessing you're not a trader and that's why you want it to be less profitable.
Seems that there's a set of people on this forum constantly trying to figure out ways to break stuff they don't want to do.

No, no I trade, that's the only way to make serious money in the game, and it would cut into my profit per hour too but it would cut into profits per ton.
What I want out of this really is immersiveness, or any game, it feels very arccady really that everything is instant.

Just a thought.

Yeah I've taken up trading more recently too, and I'm all for this. I want to see the cargo racks doing their thing when I buy 120 tons of palladium, I don't care if I have to wait. It would make the whole thing a lot more satisfying. Bounty hunting feels like bounty hunting, y'know, exploration feels like exploration, but trading feels like docking simulator 3000. Less monopoly money per hour for a more immersive game is a fine trade by me.

I like the idea.
All it needs is an option to turn cut-scenes on and off. Then those who want it can enjoy immersion and those who are in a hurry can get on their way quickly.

I always land, discharge cargo, read the bulletin board, check out the traffic reports, see who's wanted, stay topside and watch ships come and go, decide on where to go next and what to bring, load up and take off. No need to turn and burn, enjoy the game, more ships coming, plenty of time to make money to buy them all!

I don't really mind either way. Though it would be neat to watch your cargo get filled when we can walk around in our ship. It could also be a way to "suggest" interactions and other activities throughout your ship and the station you're docked at. Then you can get a notification once your ship is full and be on your way when you like.
