Horizons DPS / Sustained Fire

Hi all!

Hopefully a simple question... I'm of the understanding that with kinetic and explosive weapons there is a DPS fall-off with sustained fire over three seconds.

Can anybody please confirm (or not...) both: the fact and the duration after which DPS reduces?

My sources are:
- 3 seconds; something I read on a forum but can no longer locate
- Coriolis (https://coriolis.edcd.io/) showing both DPS and Sustained DPS figures for kinetic weapons (same goes for Heat Per Second and Energy Per Second, incidentally)

All of this would make sense in the real world...

Thanks in advance guys!!

Don't know what the 3s refers to, but the coriolis sustained dps takes into account reload times and (i think) power distro rates, whereas the higher figure is your "alpha-strike" dps only

There is no fall-off for *duration of fire* as far as I'm aware, but there is fall-off due to range, or if your weapons distributor charge level hits empty.

If you have the power to drive your weapons, and the power distributor to supply that power for a long time, then you will incur a lot of damage to the other ship, assuming your shots are on target.

If you can run a beam laser for 30 seconds, it will do 30 seconds worth of damage, the same as if you fired it for 1 second you would get 1 second worth of damage.

On my ship, if the weapons distributor drops below 4 bars, I can no longer fire my pulse accelerator for example. This doesn't happen for some time, and I'm usually waiting for it to reload. ;)

Rate of fire will be affected by the ability of your power system to maintain a minimum level to keep weaponry active.

If your weapons overdraw your output, they will not fire as frequently, overall DPS goes down. Published DPS is based on best case scenario, weapons @full power and within best effective range.

As long as you maintain fire at the weapon's top capacity, DPS is stable.
