Are we to use MS Word or Google Docs or Open Office or LibreOffice for our word counts?

These all seem to count the same way.

Not that simple I'm afraid. I got Open Office writer at home, and it gave a difference to Ian's MS Word. I wouldn't want anyone to have to install software to ensure We all get the same 100 words.

There's got to be a web-based word counter out there that can actually count words, or at least one of us should have enough Java to cobble something together.

Yes, size matters!....apparently

Hence the word vote for no to say all use a single. There are 3 listed which are free, one of them being an online one.

As for word, its your choice of hacked or not, however, I do mine on works laptop, which is licensed but for personal use I use google.
