Hi Pilots,
(Be warned: english isn't my first language. The following post can contain a incomprehensible wall of text)
maybe you know group Mobius. A group of players which only want to play PvE and dont want get disturbed while playing by PvP-searching players while they are trading or hunting NPC-Pirates or exploring etc. Fine.
And maybe you know the griefers and combat-loggers which are in the "open" and available for PvP, but annoy the hell out of your open and "Dangerous" playing experience by dropping out or camping the slot.
My humble solution to this problem would be a group like Mobius, but everything is permitted (especially PvP), as long it isn't an exploit or is only intended to destroy the fun of another player (combat-logging, slot-camping, etc.).
I will not name this group, because i want to discuss this idea and get some feedback if such a group would have enough players willing to join.
In the next paragraphs i want to adress some actual problems with the game or problems with such a group:
Combat-logging/exploiting:
At the moment FD dont go against combat-loggers (a solution is in the making) and maybe can never go against some griefers and will never catch-up with cheaters or players who are using new, unfixed exploits. A possible solution in
this group would be a forum or sub-forum for reporting such players. But you can't ban random players after some accusations without getting all the rage. So you need evidence.
At the moment this group would maybe use some 3rd party software for getting this evidence. First idea that came to my mind would be nVidia shadowplay. This program records constantly in the background and saves the footage (for example the
last 2 minutes) "on demand". This video could be posted in the corresponding forum and could be used as evidence against a player and maybe ban him.
Alternatives to shadowplay would be Fraps. But Fraps can only record for 60 seconds in the demo-version and the constant recording in the background would also mean a perfomance hit to the rig of player. So maybe there is a software out there, which would make a screenshot every second for a total time of 2 minutes and would delete the old pictures at picture 121, 122 and so on. Your drive doesn't get filled with GBs of raw video data and the performance hit isn't that big.
1. Make a gif out of this pictures
2. look at the combat-logger drop,
3. ban him
4. ???
5. Profit (omg lame internet lulz)
Community-Events:
When we get a mass of groups, 10 for the Alliance, 12 for the Empire and so on the community is getting split up and there a barely any player interactions because these groups have 20 members which wont battle against another because they are empire.
"My" group aims for a player count of a couple hundreds or maybe thousands in the long run like Mobius. Such a great number of players would be big enough to meet other players in the busy systems and meet other players to shoot at.
With such great number of players you can start community-events. The events can be started by the group admins or the players themself. We can cleary not set some system into the "civil war" state, but we can adress to all players in the group that we want to trigger a community driven war in system ABC 1234 for the next week.
I assume that a great part of the group is interested in such wars and events and will actually travel to the named systems. There will be enough players to actually have a war or maybe change some factions in result of the mass of players in the system doing quests, trading, raising and lowering influence and battling in conflict zones.
Just my idea to two problems in a community-controlled group and a first draft.
If you have questions, concerns, ideas or are interested to join, participate or create such group please post something and i will try to answer.
Fly safe!
