Hello,
I'm sure this must have been discussed somewhere, but apologies I can’t find it on the forums. Anyway, my query/concern is how ’dreamtime’ will work in Elite Dangerous.
In the previous versions of Elite we have always been able to fast forward time, this has been great as it added to the whole ‘huge space’ thing and allowed for ship interception in mid space etc.. My concern is how this could be converted into the multiplayer environment that Elite Dangerous is. I see only two ways of doing this, neither which I particularly like:
1) Still include a way of fast forwarding time, allowing players to exist in different time zones. This could get messy and if I wanted to play with a friend could prove hard as I could be a year ahead of him in the Elite time zone. Also, this does not work if events want to be added to universe by the developers.
2) Ditch the option to fast forward time but make traveling to space stations faster or allow warping in much closer to them, keeping the distance too far would make the game boring as you would spend hours just traveling. This, I feel, would lose some of the ‘vastness of space’ feeling. Also. it would make it difficult for any pirate players that want to hang around to steal cargo etc. from traders. This would cause players to essentially be clumped around space stations/planets with the only reason to stray away to maybe mine.
Finally warping itself used to occur in fast forwarded time, I guess this would now must be pretty quick as no one would want to spend too long looking at a warp screen – but is it fair that warping to a nearby system doesn’t take much less time that warping to one 10 times the distance away? I can probably live with this, just raising for possible comments.
I know I’m not providing any answers here –and assume it’s already been thought of, but keen to know others ideas and what the potential plans may be.
Many thanks,
James.
