Drew Wagars "official book" massive plot hole

Mr Wagar, in your latest "official" novel you featured traditional human weapons from a Cobra no less, harming and destroying thargoid vessels long before Aegis was a thing.

Please provide an explanation as this is clearly at odds with what we have been presented in game.

thatd be the special custom edition cobra with the special cut out switch that protects against the EMP wave, and a different type of ammunition that the protagonist couldn't identify but looked like some kind of incendiary rounds..

I admit im going from memory here as I'm in work, but I don't see that its a vast departure from what weve seen ingame really.

EDIT: Just had a thought and checked the PDF version...

In the book they're attacked with "antique" and probably heavily engineered beam lasers and multi cannons. We know that these are effective against a thargoid's shields.
Then they get too close to the ship thats firing on them, which then explodes pretty violently, shredding the shieldless thargoids with cobra shrapnel.
There's a bit of artistic license there, but I really dont think any of that is completely at odds with whats in game

Luko's Cobra was not the same as the modern Cobras you can purchase in-game. It was originally a Cowell and MgRath special edition built in 3120, not a Faulcon DeLacy build. It is a vintage machine which has been through many owners and many upgrades during its near 200 hundred year history which straddles the entire player 'lore time' of 3125 to 3303, during which previous Thargoid encounters occurred. You can consider it a highly customized ship. Artistic license? Yes, as you obviously can't purchase such a ship as a player, but it was already established as such in the previous book. It was based upon the description of the Cobra from the original Elite manual.

There was another Cobra of similar ilk that appeared earlier in the story, the 'Cor Meum at Animam' which dates from a similar period. The Prologue of Premonition gives an insight into some of technology onboard those ships which is also based on the description from the original Elite manual.

Cheers,

Drew.

Sorry for any misrememberings there - I remembered the Cor Meum at Animan was an Apocalypse engineering edition, and that Luko's cobra was a different version again, but the old grey cells wouldnt give me any more than that lol.
