Drinking and space flight DON'T mix... (My sad tale)

So I had taken a three hour exploration trip out toward the Coal Sack Nebula. I had gathered a couple 100k in exploration data at least. Was on my way back, less than 100 ly's from inhabited space. When disaster struck....

You see, I had just polished off a couple (ok 5 or 6) rum and cokes (or as you in the civilized world call them Cuba Libres). Well in my inebriated state I forgot you couldn't fuel scoop from brown dwarfs. So of course I get SLAM emergency stop...taking heat damage. Well, instead of just calmly backing off till my heat dropped, turning away from the star and engaging super cruise, I panic and madly try to pick a jump point and go straight to hyperspace. Which results in my heat jumping to over 250% as I madly try to locate the jump coordinates. Long story short Eject Eject Eject and three hours of work down the drain.

Lol! And I can't even blame it on a server malfunction or glitch. 100% my fault. But, God I love this game as unforgiving of stupidity as it is.

Dear OP

Lets join Federations AA or any other AA , I have had 13 deaths so far , 2 by regular shot down , 1 selfdestruct because of stuck, and 10 by Flyiing under Influence :)
Maybe we could petition FD for a special Drunk Decal :D

Hapyy Drunken flying :)

Please , Please Dont drive and drink serious !!

Cheers hic Cmdr's

after reading some posts and the newsletter i think as explorer a heat sink launcher would help in those emergency situations - btw maybe it breaks the immersion but when you drop into a trap between two stars or too near to one of those big ones you can logout and the position will be set to 100km away after relogging

When wings come out we really need a Friday night drinking crew

Hehe, drink may or may not be the reason entering the station without docking permission is now known as "doing a Doc" within our clan. It certainly wasn't helped two nights ago when I entered the first time in my Clipper, panicked, rotated and boosted out with one second to spare after forgetting to request permission, then blinkin' did it again immediately afterwards, much to the delight of my Clan mates in TS as I screamed "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" and got out with half a second left :D

Third time was the charm, and a good excuse to have another drink.......

You're either drinking too little on a regular basis or play the game too seldom. Take your pick. I'm guessing you're just the type of person who can't down a bottle of booze and still keep a steady stick.

Yeah i feel you will be deep space trucking/drinking tonight. It will be... interesting... to say the least. last time i did this in beta a slapped heavy shields on a anaconda and played pin ball at the Eranin dock the screams of rage from baby ships echoed throughout the entirety of space.

I've had a few beer + ED mishaps myself. Enough to realize that this game is not drink friendly. Too many small details to remember when operating your ship, forgetting any of which will have dire consequences.

The classic is forgetting to ask for docking permission. Not a problem in something small and nimble. A bit more serious in something big and fat.

Due to increased impatience after a few, a bit of bouncing around the interior of stations is to be expected.

The worst is entirely forgetting you've gotten a tiny little bounty on your head for tickling a Fed a little during the heat of combat. They really don't like it if you don't pay that bounty ASAP - and certainly before leaving a station again.

Lol, I have certainly done "a Doc" quite a few times myself after a couple. Never twice on the trot though.

On the second attempt I request docking, then get "landing gear NOT deployed" panic as I am about to hit the pad.

Nice story Dervrak! I feel for you! Having a drink and touring the grandness of the Galaxy is a lovely combination in most cases...it's just so easy to make a silly mistake. Perhaps a more 'slow burning' drink next time? (Beer?!)

Haha glad it isn't just me with the boozing mishaps:)

After a bit of New Years day hi jinx I decided rather to use my Cobra's guns on an assassination target Orca, Id boost ram the thing...

I was numbly surprised when I was insta killed:)

BTW Im just on the way to the Coalsack now, nearly got caught out by a white dwarf star lol

Hahhhahahha made me laugh. I never play sober. I think I'm better buzzed - I can actually dock with FA off while drunk but not sober for some reason.

Happens to me occasionally - given I was in an Asp filled to the brim with rares, it actually got my heart pounding a little :D.

Somehow I see these topics as very important.
Don't get offended in any ways please but I'm happy that things like this is happening. Just to show how certain drugs are taking effect on human decisions, overall on human mind.
ED is educative if there are people willing to learn. Giving control away by drinking any time (and causing loss) is a human decision about giving up on decisions. And responsibility. And gain the advantage of the game of "regret". :)

I had no crashes in this game so far. Only one insurance claim on my list of about 4500 cr because someone killed me in my hauler on day 2. So I may not be an interesting person.
I enjoy docking at high speed and also enjoy making it elegant so the magnets at the pad would move the less of my ship after clicked on. It's a challenge requires full access of my capabilites and so becomes really rewarding experience.
Alcohol would take my chances away.
But it takes yours instead :)

Anyway I had the best laughs so far reading topics like this - I guess we could use a whole sub-forum to collect these stories :)

Today while wearing the rift and trying to search the galaxy map I had a coke+keyboard accident that ruined both the drink and the keyboard.

I'm looking on the bright side... I've still got more drink. New keyboard on order.

Done that at brown dwarf too. In my case the guilty party was Kraken (a damned fine rum, eh what? They know how to make the stuff in the colonies).

I was lucky though, kept my head just enough to switch off all but necessary systems and got clear with 36% hull left. Definitely a sphincter-puckering moment. Biggest problem was that I still had several more brown dwarf systems to get through before I could dock for repairs. Made it though.

I typically play with a glass of Edradour in hand. It mixes quite well. It gets lonely in space. ... I'll stop while I'm ahead.
