Ok, so I have been running missions between Dromi, Otegeni, and Shartrur building up cash to outfit my Eagle. (I love this ship) But these three systems are absolute crap for upgrading, especially gimbaled weapons. Are gimbaled weapons just that hard to find? I have used RDSM to find some NEARBY system that has them to no avail. Am I just in a boring set of systems? Should I begin a trek to another system? I am looking for suggestions as to what systems are more adventurous (I lean toward combat) with ample upgrade availability.

Yes the ships and equipment in the starter area are deliberately restricted.
Once you leave the starter area you will find the full range of stuff (use EDDB or INARA to find places with what you want).

I just started a new account. I flew straight out of the starter area and after 4 hours, I'm sitting in Ray Gateway with 150 million in the bank, so just about to buy a Vulture with everything A-rated. That'll leave 100 million for a mining Python and a nice DBX to do the Guardian stuff and engineers. The starter zone is for losers.
If you get yourself a Hauler with a fuel scoop and everything D-rated and fly to the nearest system that sells a detail surface scanner, then use the Road to Riches tool with a 35LY deviation to plot a route to Diaguandri and detail surface scan all the indicated planets along the way, by the time you get to Diaguandri, you'll have more than 10 million worth of data to sell. get rid of weapons and shields to increase your jump range. You don't need them.

My Eagle doesn’t have the best jump range, so I guess it’s gonna be a sight seeing tour.
The learning is the same whether you're within or without the starter zone.
That isn’t a fair comparison as I am sure you hadn’t forgotten all your skills and knowledge of the game for that new account.
