Drones and counter measures

Just wondering if drones should or would be disrupted by devices like electronic counter measures, Chaff or. Point defense?

Sorry for droning on if this has already be posted.

I just got an ECM and am now trying to figure out how to use it. It shows up in a fire group, but does not seem assignable to a key on my joystick.
Are there detailed directions on how to set it up and use it anywhere ?

Haven't used ECM as I use the point defence. However, if it shows up in fire groups, surely you just assign it to primary or secondary fire? It may be completely automatic (like the point defence).

Since missles became useless against shields I lost my pds in favour of extra shields booster.

Id like to see missles do more damage again.

I wonder how prone drones will be to mines?

Maybe they'll be susceptible to waste dumping so you can zip in and nick the painite.

Well chaffs only mess up targeting of the ships and point defense only works on hostile weapons, which drones arent. It would be neat if ecm did disable drones, but i cant think of a time when it would be needed or useful.

It must be assigned.

It only effects Homing Missiles. To use it, you must charge it up until its radius is big enough to effect the missile. The radar also changes when its being charged to better see the incoming attack. Max AOE of 3000m and it auto fires at max distance.

As far as i know, there are no offensive drones. There are drones to refule, pick up and to prospect asteroids. Hardly anything worth shooting down sins they are disposable and you resupply them at the station rather than pick them up.

ECM is deployed like a scanner. Never used one in anger, so no idea whether they are more effective than a pdt (Or whether it has an area effect that would be useful to protect your wing mates).

I wouldl vote no. this would be serius greaving issue is players jumped inn, used Electronic Countermessures to kill Your drones then just to leave.
Presuming they dont get Bounty for killing Your drones.

I bet you will be Chaffed to bits when you get an answer.

Perhaps we need a anti-drone drone? Maybe a KDS.

I hope so, all this exciting talk of drones in 1.3 has got me a bit overwhelemed and the announcemnet made almost spill my tea.

I'd imagine drones fitted with silent running would not be effected by a KDS unless you've got line of site so you wouldnt be able to see them through hulls.

I think the come in two classes to start with though.

Miner Class

and the other fitted with docking computers so you dont have to manually guides it back on a piece of string 1.3.

Details of the length of the piece of string are due in an announcement soon.

But seriously. Do you think cargo cans pickced up by drones will get people in to hot water for collecting stolen goods or will salvage become a reality?

Aren't hatch breakers technically (offensive) drones? Point defence turrets kill them, I've also had a ship fire ECM after one had attached to it and I got the message: "resource syphon failed". They don't seem to like chaff either from what I've seen.

I guess we can only speculate as to what affects the new drone types in 1.3. I know I'll be trying out cargo recovery drones but I'm thinking PDTs would engage them. At least it would make sense that way. Especially if they're grabbing cargo from a ship that just had it's hatch busted open by limpets. Otherwise I feel that once a collector drone grabs the cargo, there'd be no chance for the ship it was stolen from to try and deny/recover it's stolen cargo.
