Drones... is the beginning of something more sinister?

Just a thought that struck me amongst many others when staring at the stars deep in the big black. Frontier Developments are introducing drones into the next big update which quite excites me in many ways. To me Drones are miniature ships that do the beck and call of its host ship... ie you. However to those that hark back to original Elite games you will remember that the elusive Thargoids also had similar. You would start firing on the mothership and out came the Tharglets, the young version of their parents. If I remember you could destroy the host ship and scoop the little buggers which would go inert.

Could it be that the introduction of Drones is a precursor or test for the Thargoid and their Tharglet defences? Just a thought.

I was thinking more on the lines of FD testing this game mechanic as these things would be running on an autopilot.

I think when 1.3 comes out if you are suddenly attacked by NPC's featuring an impressive array of FUNCTIONAL drones you can pretty much expect Thargons to be a real thing from there on.

Wait until we get combat drones. Small ones loaded with a laser of some description. Imagine tens of them flying around shooting everywhere!!!
