Drones look great!

If drones will really be this detailed - which I don't doubt, given FDs track record with meticiously detailed objects like the Voyager probes and the nav beacons - it will be another high point in the long list of visual splendor the FD artists are producing on a regular base!

Great work, guys! :)

I was expecting them to be a LOT smaller if they are disposable (i.e. they are 'consumed' after use), something like a limpet attachment with a small ball of thrust cones. The one pictured is huge in comparison (to my mental image) and should be re-usable, imho.

Well its basically same size as a piece of cargo which makes sense if you gonna store them in your cargo like limpets

That's what I was thinking. I thought the engine part might be smaller, but overall it's not too different from what I imagined. I just wonder how the alternate collection method (scooping up multiple bits) would work. Magnetize the hull so you can chain canisters together?

They ate stored in the cargo hold before use and have to go down the cargo shaped holes in your cargo hatch, so it makes sense that they are shaped like that. I like the look of them too. :)

Maybe it just lines them up on a course into your cargo scoop, and all you need to do is not move while the canisters drift in.

Fuel Drone sounds interesting!
-Hopefully one day we might see a repair drone too, to fix damaged components on friends ships...along with the fuel drones that would open up a new salvage and recovery career choice.

Surprised they're disposable tho!

Pretty sure that the 'scoop as much as you can' mode will only be for collecting loads of ore chunks, not for collecting loads of canisters from the looks of that design. Otherwise it would have to empty a cargo canister into itself, taking up all it's space, come back to offload, then go out and grab another. Which makes no sense as they are 'used' up by collecting a cargo canister. Why would you ever use the 'get that one thing' mode, it would just be inefficient. I guess you could use it to grab a single thing so you didn't end up with 5 tonnes of toxic waste, and one tonne of ancient artifacts though I suppose.

Fuel drones will likely act a lot like limpets (I think all of them will) you will fire it off, it will contain a tonnage of fuel, it will attach to the cargo hold/fuel tank of the other ship, offload, and then fall apart (or whatever these drones for some reason do when this used up nonsense comes into play)

Pretty sad they haven't announced repair drones, those make sense too, and would be good for people to smash your thrusters, steal your stuff, then fix your thrusters up (that may sound weird, but some pirates are)
