Drop and Acquire SRV Without Landing

The ship should be able to drop and pick up the SRV without needing to land, just hover. The bay could still present the holographic indicator, and just hitting thrusters on the SRV would lift it enough for the ship to grab it. Dropping could be the same except in reverse. Getting dropped onto a planet from a few meters high means you don't need to find a place to land, just drop in and off your ship goes. Of course you should still be able to land if you would like.

absoulutely +1
especialy if they ever get around to letting us do multicrew SRV's
I would love to pilot my ship along side a player driving one of my SRV's

Well, I agree with the dropping, with damage depending on height.
But for pickup you have to reach your craft.

Given the difference in weapon power your ship as close air support is too powerful. Though I like the help against guardian drone missile attacks.

There is actually ingame mechanics that will allow you to be picked by your ship while it is hovering above you. It seems to kick in when the game cannot find a suitable landing spot reasonably close to where you are located.

In my case this happened near Guardian ruins, located in some very hilly terrain. below there is a great spot to land two big ships like Anacondas. So when I was done and recalled my ship it would not always land, but instead hover above a ridge. Now this had me confused the first time this happened, as my Anaconda cannot have SRV hangar active at the same time as thrusters..... priority was set this way.

So the biggest issue I had was to navigate my SRV in a 45 degree slope to be under the cargo hatch, but once there, I could board my ship and be suprised that my ship was actually flying, and I just had to fly away.

I think this functionality could be tied to the use of NPC Pilot, and then allow us to have our ship follow us. etc. since we now actually have a Pilot onboard...

I guess the NPC pilot would be ok, but it's just an image. We have autopilot for these things so the ship should be able to handle it's business after I bail out.

Imagine you have just infiltrated a planetary site and stolen some data. You're being pursued by drones and a couple ships just launched. You're in the SRV and moving away from the site as fast as you can manage, and instead of needing to get to your ship or wait for it to land, the ship matches your course, lowers to you and scoops you up without you needing to even slow down. Off you go.
