Dropping in after my wingman... I think I am missing something

What is the proper/best/intended way to drop out of supercruize into normal space, after my wingman after he has succesfully interdicted somebody? Last night I was BHing with a wingman... we decided he was going to interdict, and I would drop in behind them. With the wake targeted... I sloowly made my approach. It seemingly takes FOVEVER to get there... and because there is no mass slowing you down, getting inside 1000m, while also being under 1000m/s is SUPER difficult. If I just TOUCH my throttle.. I skyrocket into the fraction of lightspeed, kind of speeds. I literally had to sit there and inch my way closer,... inch by inch by inch until I got my ready to disengage message.

The few times we tried this, by the time I dropped in, the battle was long over.

I must be missing something.

Slave you FSD to your wingman (bind a key for this and the other new wingman buttons.)

When he drops for whatever reason, as long as you are within a reasonable range you will get pulled in with him. No need to use the wakes at all.

If he's already in normal space, have him activate the Wing Beacon. You'll get pulled in automatically when you get close enough.

A trick that works for now is to drop into normal space, and jump back to SC. If you're within a few hundred Ls you should get pulled in as long as he's got a Wing Beacon and your Nav Locked to him.
