Dropping out of SuperCruise as close as possible to a Resource Extraction Site

Not sure if anyone else had issue getting close to resource extraction sites, when i first flew at one i was 60km away and have been slowing trying to get as close as possible.

I can now manage to come out of super cruise about 10km out every time, closest so far is 9.08km, can anyone beat that?

This is what I do, I got sick of the 100 Km flight to the nav point after exiting super cruise.

Cool, glad I am not alone!

Perhaps a challenge who can get the lowest recorded value, with photographic evidence of course :)

The game spits you out a bit away from the asteroids in the very direction from which you approach it. Therefore, a shallow angle of approach leads to a long distance, going in vertically/normal/90° oriented to the plane of the rings spits you out at approximately 10km. Nothing mysterous about it. :D

I haven't confirmed for sure, but this seems to work for me. I usually go in at 90 degrees. I slow down on approach.. then drop. I'll keep a closer look at my distance.. I really haven't been paying very close attention to the drop distance as whatever I am doing puts me close enough.

If you are mining ... you'll find potentially higher profits in metallic, or (rare) pristine metallic rings around gas giant planets. You also do not need to mine at resource extraction sites. You could find a metallic ring system for example.. and just drop right down into it. Not all rings even have extraction sites, but they all can be mined. You may potentially also encounter less pirates or other hostile players that way. The metallic rings have a lighter color (don't mistake for ice). So when dropping in onto them, make sure you are stopping at the right ring. Some ring systems are layered.
