Dropship?

Several times now the term 'dropship' has come up in regards to odyssey. Im wondering if a new class of ship is being introduced? Is the federal dropship going to earn its wings finally and do as its name implies? Or is any ship delivering people/things to the ground just called a dropship now? Speculate wildy ? Or do we have information on this?

I 'read' it as "troops will drop out of a ship" ... or rather, a military ship will land from which troops will rapidly disembark. A couple of the videos show Anacondas, so I suspect it is any ship capable of holding many passengers. It would be nice to see the Dropship used for its name.

i so wish we could use one , with fellow CMDRs in the back.... drop onto a thargoid invested base and kick a...s

i know drop ship looks different in elite, but the principle is the same, haha just like the Aliens movie

Many moons ago FD said that the federal dropship would handle better than other ships in atmosphere.
Whether it will hold true, and/or the ship will actually ever handle troops is another story.

Garath mentioned during the Annivarsary stream that he recalls the first time he was coming into a conflict zone on a drop ship and was looking down at the battle happening as he flew in... to me, this sounds like you will be in a ship that is physically brining you to the battle. That sounds exciting!

Since there's no ship interiors, that shouldn't be your deepest fear, that is exactly what you should be expecting.

Then there is no tactical difference to any ship, other than the usual- again. Plus, nothing is stopping (just as some parts of ship interiors are done) a simple loading / exit bay is done.

I think that disembarking from normal Ships/SRVs will be a fade to black scenario. But I do get the impression that there will be a new dropship for entering conflict zones. I believe the only time Gareth mentioned them in the interview was in relation to conflict zones. So I wonder if you will be able to take those missions and be dropped into them. Bearing in mind that they have said it will be possible to play Elite now without ever owning a ship, so there must be some way (other than Apex hopefully) of getting to certain missions.

Come in on a dropship, clear out the CZ, dropship comes back to take you back to the social hub.

I do also hope that some of our ships might work in a similar way, maybe with physical multicrew. As Rubbernuke says, a Federal Dropship that can't be used as a Dropship would be very disappointing.

Will number of crew seats available make a difference ... Krait mk2 and Alliance Crusader are the only mediums with three seats for multicrew...

Perhaps a new module that can transport physical multicrew CMDRs or NPCs even. We have yet to see what the Part 4 of the Devil Diary has to offer. And it's called "Assemble Your CREW".

My biggest, darkest fear is that we have a 'disembark' command next to the SRV deploy option and after a fade to black you are stood outside, meaning the actual getting out is the same regardless of ship.

Oh dear go no, please no. I mean in 1999 yer sure. but in 2020 please Fdev NO !
