DS4 Controller not working

Hello,

I recently bought a new laptop. Previously, I played on a different laptop. I've been using the Dualshock 4 controller for a while now, connected via USB cable. My experience has essentially been plug & play, zero problems at any point. I made a custom binding, which I have copied to my new laptop.

With my new laptop, however, I'm having weird problems that I don't know how to troubleshoot. I play from the ED launcher; I do NOT play on Steam.

1. When I load into the game, and go into Controls (within Options), and look in the drop-down menu of available controls presets, Dualshock 4 (and Dualshock 4 with Yaw) appear as options. (to troubleshoot, I also launched the game with the controller disconnected; these options disappeared from the available options, as expected) Great, I think -- it's detecting the controller...

2. As part of my troubleshooting (based on similar issues with other games), I disabled Steam's controller profiles within Big Picture mode, and closed Steam completely. Upon loading back into ED, the controller worked as desired; everything seemed to be fixed, with my custom bindings profile working as expected. Eureka! Except...

3. The next day, when I loaded into the game again, I'm back to the same problem as point #1. I launch the game with the controller plugged in... the controller appears as an available option in the control presets list, yet it seems that the controller will not actually work; buttons appear to be completely unresponsive. Despite retracing the same steps that led to the outcome in point #2, I cannot seem to even reproduce that work-around solution.

Does anyone have any ideas? I find it completely bizarre that I was able to get it working, only to have it revert to non-responsiveness.

I have been able to get the controller working again, for now at least (hopefully this continues to work). I completely disconnected the controller from the laptop, including de-pairing the controller from Bluetooth. Then I connected the controller via USB cable only, and launched the game. Success, everything is working normally again.

For kicks, I then disconnected the controller from USB, paired the controller to the laptop via Bluetooth, reconnected the controller via USB cable, then launched the game. It's still working normally. At this point, I'm very confused what the problem actually is, and am assuming that ED just has some obnoxious controller compatibility issues (Frontier, please fix this stuff, it's silly).

Let me know if you have thoughts about what's going on here, or if something similar has happened to you, what you've done to fix or work around it, etc.

I suspect another binding file, ensure only one bind file and one startpreset.start file are in the bindings folder

@STRONTIUM DOG: I did initially import extra (old) binding files, but removed them and left only the most recent (renamed) one. My first suspicion was the binding file... I should have mentioned this, simply forgot to. I appreciate the suggestion though.

@GraphiteGB: That makes me curious to learn more about Bluetooth and how controllers interact with it; I'm late to the party here, and have very limited experience with Bluetooth. That being said, I find it particularly odd that, given how long Bluetooth has been around, there isn't basic functionality with a Dualshock 4 controller. It seems I have unrealistic expectations, but am glad that I can seemingly circumvent the issue if I need to. Thanks for the information!
