If you are in the DSS and you flip between the signal types you should see slight changes. I'm guessing but in the one you show it should be the blue areas. The biologicals cover very large areas.I too am finding the DSS heatmaps confusing. What are these scans (below) supposed to be showing me? How do I know if 'life' is reported. Are the blue/green areas supposed to be showing 'life' signs? I have found NO life so far on any of the bodies that seem to be showing these 'Bio signs' (despite extensive searching)??
[Also if Frontier reads this, we STILL need a way to NOT show the scan, either a 'Null' filter or even the ability to turn the thing off in the module section.]
PS. I have found planets/moons where the DSS scan shows no blue areas or anything (just plain surface) which in the Alpha I took to mean there was NO lifeforms present (and seemed to be borne out in practice)?
Confusion all round then!!!!I reported it to the issue tracker since I thouht it was supposed to be a heatmap. But got the answer that they ditched it.

Greetings Cmdr, This is working as expected - the blue areas highlight locations where organic life is supported on this planet. There is no longer a "heat map" as this was causing some confusion. Hope this helps! QA-Jack o7
I liked the heatmap. At least the few times it actually worked.Confusion all round then!!!!
I think there was something about that in the depths of the patch notes.I reported it to the issue tracker since I thouht it was supposed to be a heatmap. But got the answer that they ditched it.

EXPLORATION
Detailed Surface Scanner
- Fix for organics sometimes appearing incorrectly in highlighted areas of the Heatmap overlay
- The DSS Heatmap no longer displays with "hot" or "cold" areas, but with an overlay where organics/geologicals highlighted should appear
- Emissive properties of DSS Heatmap rescales based on light/dark side of the planet to retain visual fidelity in all light conditions

It's possible that's correct. Often the 'hotspots' correspond with surface type or depressions etc, so you might find all the geologicals in (say) rough terrain or find flora in flat, low-lying areas. And how is this supposed to work for Geos then ? I have a planet with gelogicals (4) listed and 4 different filters ...and flipping between the filters changes nothing at all overlay wise .
Lucky you?! Seems they have turned the whole concept of looking for a needle in a haystack into an actual game. Given my luck I guess I won't be finding too many Flora life forms!I found a planet with large areas of blue earlier this evening, so went down to investigate - and found these:
They weren't really that bad to find. I just scanned a few planets in a system and found one that had blue patches and reported 2 biological signals, so went down to have a look.Lucky you?! Yeah, I agree on the geos, takes a bit of work.It is a bit random trying to find the geo sites - but I have been stumbling across a few ... and noticing another small issue . All materials are the same at a given geo site . If you find a site and the first object is iron - then so is everything else it seems and it seems to persist .
