DSS malfunction

Hi Commanders,

I just returned to ED after a 5 month immersion in No Man's Sky and EVE. As per usual I selected a mission tasked with retrieving damaged rescue pods from a system. Upon arrival I activated my scanner and was then prompted to change mode. After returning to base I set up this function and assigned the Discovery Scanner to a fire group. Selecting a new similar mission, I arrived at the designated system, then activated the scanner. The scan was successful returning the correct number of planets in the system. As per my old routine I activated the nav panel to select my mission target only to find the information missing. I then attempted to scan the nav beacon, again without success.
Clearly, I must be missing something somewhere. I would appreciate if any of you would be kind enough to provide me with feedback.

Fly disgracefully...

After discovering the number of bodies in the system to populate them into your nav panel you will need to slow down to a virtual stop in super cruise and while in the analysis HUD enter the DSS/FSS and frequency scan to locate the bodies and identify them this is the equivalent of the old Surface Scan but will also locate the USSs in the system. There are probably details in the tutorials tabs over in the introductions forum, unfortunately lots more key binding needed.

Not sure why the Nav Beacon wouldn’t work.

Hi Commander aRJay,

Much appreciate your reply, thank you for taking the time. It may be prudent to start from "scratch" ,simply a lot of processes seem to have changed over the last few month for example I am not familiar with the FSS process you mentioned above. I just checked my X52 profile and it appears a significant number of key bindings need to be activated.

Cheers,

Back in December all the discovery scanners were removed and replaced with an inbuilt unit that combines aspects of the discovery and surface scanners you can now get all the data that both provided without having to visit everywhere in the system.
At the same time the Detailed Surface Scanner was changed to a module that is now used to map planets and rings by bombarding them with scanning units, if you don’t use more of these units than a target value you earn a bonus, this mapping can earn you a first mapped by tag and can find POI on the surface including geological and biological sites which can be added to your copy of the Codex. Mapping rings can find hotspots where the new mining tools can really come into their own helping you acquire some of the new high value materials.

So yes many big changes to exploration, mining, HUD and panels as well as the new modules.

Commanders Factabulous and Para Handy,

Thank you kindly for your feedback. Your feedback including information supplied by aRJay greatly assisted and sped up my progress in relation to the new scanning system. I am now able, albeit clumsily to analyse a system. My current task involves finding the most effective mapping for the scanning task (currently spread over mouse, keyboard and X52).

Again thank you for your input and may I take the opportunity to wish you all the best for Easter.
