There has been some extensive research that has shown that the engineering materials that drop from mining depend on which ring you are mining. Currently there is no way in game to tell which material will drop from a ring other than manually mining hundreds of materials and counting up the drops.
A simple and intuitive fix to this would be to have the DSS reveal the material composition of rings just like it does with planets.
